A lot of people get upset by nature videos that depict scenes of animals hunting other animals. These people don't like to see images of a predator taking down its prey in the wild. But look, folks, this is the way the world is. You can hide from it if you want to, but that doesn't change the violent, visceral reality of nature. You can't tell a wild animal to go vegan. Animals kill each other and they eat each other. If we want to learn about the world around us, we need to accept that and even study it. That's why these videos exist. If it's too gruesome, just look away. Look away.

Worms are a common affliction for household cats. As part of a Paw Nation series providing background about the medical problems your pet may suffer, we spoke to Dr. Maya Scott, professor at the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences in College Station, Texas, to get some insights about the condition. You should always consult your veterinarian before giving medication or supplements to your pet.

What are the signs that my cat has worms?
There are many types of worms. Focusing on just intestinal worms, a cat may have diarrhea, weakness, weight loss, poor hair coat, anemia, lethargy or a pot-bellied appearance.

Blood in the stool does not automatically mean your dog has intestinal worms. It could actually be the result of a number of things.

In addition to worms, colitis, bacterial overgrowth, malabsorption, maldigestion, endocrine, metabolic, even neoplastic processes can all cause blood in a dog's stool.

Each case is individual. If a dog has blood continuously in his or her bowel movements I would certainly recommend having it evaluated by your veterinarian. Bring a fresh sample when you visit your vet so they can send it out for analysis if necessary.
