cat goddess temple in Egypt pictureEgypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities / AP

We know some cat people who worship their pets, but nothing like this.

Archaeologists have discovered the remains of a 2,200-year-old temple dedicated to the ancient Egyptian cat goddess Bastet. According to Discovery News, the temple, measuring 200 feet in height and 49 feet in width, probably belonged to Queen Berenike II, the wife of king Ptolemy III. The cat goddess was worshipped in the ancient city of Bubastis, which featured a cemetery of mummified cats. Bastet started out as a lion goddess, then later became a domestic cat goddess with a cult centered in Bubastis.

The Supreme Council of Antiquities released a statement saying, "This is the first Ptolemaic temple discovered in Alexandria to be dedicated to the goddess Bastet." The site also contained 600 Ptolemaic statues, including many representations of the cat goddess Bastet.

Also found was an usually large deposit of mummified catnip. Okay, not really.

Forget rubbing your hubby's Buddha belly for good luck. At one Hindu temple in Malaysia, people are going hog wild for boars they believe will bring them good luck with one gentle rub. Visitors are flocking from far and wide to pet the beasts, including one visitor who won a bundle of cash ($174 - we'll take it!) after his last excursion.

So far, eighty boar have emerged from the jungle and made the temple their home. And if they keep on coming, we imagine the tourists will as well. Hakuna matata!
