Am I the only one who had no idea that catnip works on dogs?! This video is life changing. Look at that poodle go bananas on that 'nip! She barely gets a taste of the stuff and completely blisses out. Even the cat is like, "Whoa, girl! Handle your sh**!" We even get to see the dog satisfy her munchies. Not depicted: the five-hour nap she took immediately after stuffing her face.

Superstition! It's a big part of sports. Athletes of all stripes are superstitious. Maybe you're a pitcher who doesn't talk about a no-hitter during a no-hitter. Maybe you're a goalie who doesn't shave his beard or change his socks during the playoffs. Maybe you're Wade Boggs, and had so many superstitions that it was bananas. Or maybe you're Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, and you just want your best friend around when you play in the top tennis tournaments in the world.

Djokovic suffered a major bummer last month at Wimbledon when his poodle, Pierre, was denied entry to the UK by those dog-hating Brits. The tennis star had to play without his pooch by his side. Outrage! Luckily, now it's US Open time, and if there's one thing that's true about America, it's that we love our pets. That's probably why Djokovic was seen with Pierre last week in New Jersey, according to the New York Post. This is America, Jack. We're not about to tell the world's No. 1 tennis pro that he can't bring his companion animal with him across our borders. All dogs are welcome here! USA! USA!

Standard Poodle Inge pictureVicki Holloway

How could the Westminster Dog Show be complete without at least one utterly spoiled standard poodle flying in on her own private jet?

Taking the pampered poodle concept to the extreme, Houston-area owners Arvid and Holly Sundbeck are transporting their champion, Inge (along with her personal vet, stylist and photographer), to Westminster in style.

Meet Inge (pronounced Inga)
Though Arvid and Holly Sundbeck have been showing standard poodles for the past 15 years, this marks their first trip to the illustrious Westminster Dog Show. And they owe this landmark achievement to their glory hound, Inge.

As the No. 2 standard poodle in the nation in terms of breed points, Inge is used to being top dog. It's a fact that's not at all lost on owner Holly, who likes to joke about what a prima donna her dog has become.

"It's all about Inge, trust me," Sundbeck tells Paw Nation. "The world revolves around her. Don't get me wrong, she's very, very sweet. But she thinks all the toys are hers and that she allows the other dogs to play with them."

Weird Quirk: She will hold the kitty down and give him a complete tongue bath as if he were a puppy.

Likes: Swimming, chasing balls and stealing his daddy's socks, hankies, T-shirts and underpants.

Weird Quirk: Stealing his daddy's socks and hankies at least twice a day, before work and after. If you lay them out or take them off, and he swoops in faster than a speeding bullet.

Fun Fact: When he's groomed and his owners take him out, dozens of women run over to touch him and take his photo. "It's like walking down the street with Elvis," they say. Single guys have asked them to borrow him.

Columnist Robyn Todd talks About Exercising With Her Pet at MarloThomas.com
Izzy, a standard poodle, is the apple of her owner's eye. But even when you love your dog more than almost anything else in the world, taking charge of 85 pounds of excitable poodle isn't always so easy. Columnist Robyn Todd writes on the Marlo Thomas website about the pains and pratfalls of exercising with her peppy poodle.

Communicating With Your Dog
Remember in "Up" how Dug the dog wore a special collar that translated his thoughts into human speech? Wouldn't it be cool if that device was real? Sadly, the technology to turn that magical wish into science fact may be weeks or even months away. Until then, you'll have to rely on body language and other forms of non-verbal communication to understand what your dog is thinking. But according to Zootoo, chances are you're close enough to your dog that a lack of language is hardly a barrier to you understanding each other.

Denise Richards Rescues Ailing Dog
Luke was suffering from a broken leg, and he was this close to being put down. Fortunately for him, Hollywood star Denise Richards ("Wild Things," "Drop Dead Gorgeous") was on hand to rescue the ailing pooch. Richards wasn't about to let a few health issues get in the way of saving the lucky dog's life. People Pets has a photo of the adorable mutt posing with his new hotty owner.

Black Pet Syndrome
Halloween is fast approaching, and that means black cats are about to be the toast of the pet population. During the rest of the year, though, black-coated dogs and cats prove less popular than those of other colors when it comes to adoption from rescues and shelters. Petside.com debunks several of the myths that may have led to the stigmatization of pets with dark fur.

Which dog breeds are the most intelligent? And just what makes them so smart?

We took the list of the top ten brainiest breeds and asked dog guru Billy Rafferty, author of "Happy Dog: Caring for Your Dog's Body, Mind and Spirit" to give his perspective. "While most smart dogs have certain traits in common -- loyalty, vigilance, perceptiveness, a caring nature -- "there are many different kinds of intelligence," says Rafferty. "Canine intelligence is more nuanced than people think."

In the photo gallery below, Rafferty explains the pros and cons of owning these clever (but sometimes high maintenance) canines. And to learn more about how the original list was created, check out "The Intelligence of Dogs" by neuropsychologist Stanley Coren, PhD,. Coren based his findings on evaluations of breeds made by over 200 dog obedience judges in the U.S. and Canada.

Name: Poodle

Personality: Thanks to their stylish appearance, poodles get a bum rap for being vain and self-centered. In fact, Poodles -- whether toy, miniature or standard -- are one of the people-friendliest of all breeds. They love to please their owners and they are great with children. Originally bred as hunting dogs, they enjoy vigorous play and making mischief. Believe it or not, scientific studies have posited that the poodle is the smartest of all breeds!

Grooming: One look at the poodle's striking, full coat, and you assume that this pooch requires extensive grooming, right? Well, not entirely. A poodle's coat is made up of a single layer of hair-like fur that doesn't shed too badly. Because of this, poodles are considered a relatively hypoallergenic breed of dog. Though poodles that are kept for showing may require hours of maintenance per week, a pet poodle only needs to be groomed every six to eight weeks. Either way, poodles do customarily require a "clip" (basically, a haircut) to prevent matting and clumps of unsanitary hair. Clips can be administered by a professional groomer, although with practice, any pet owner can master the basics.

Miniature dogs, like micro-pigs, are small, compact and too cute for words. From the Miniature Schnauzer to the Miniature Dachshund, these mini pups may be smaller in height and weight, but their personalities are undoubtedly full-scale.

Lorain County Animal Emergency Center

They're unlikely friends, but when a 90 lbs. Rottweiler became stranded in the middle of a dark Ohio road, her tiny best friend, a 9 lbs. poodle, refused to leave her side.

Veterinary assistant Jody Wetzig was working Monday night at the Lorain County Animal Emergency Center when she received a phone call from a woman who had spotted two dogs sitting in the middle of the dark, two-lane road. One was a Rottweiler whose leg appeared to be injured. The other was a small, black poodle who was sitting right next to her bigger friend. The woman didn't know what to do.

"Normally, we don't take in strays," Wetzig explains to Paw Nation. "But if they're injured, we'll try to help, so we told the lady to bring the Rottweiler in."

When the woman arrived with the dogs, she had a touching story to tell. "The woman said that the poodle would not leave the Rottweiler's side," Wetzig recounts. The little dog stayed close as the woman and a passerby eased the Rottweiler onto a blanket. When they loaded the dog into the car, the poodle jumped in too.
