Is your pet's ratty old bed ruining the carefully cultivated vintage look you've given your apartment? It's probably time to chuck that thing. Think about something a little more in line with your design when you replace it. These interesting and classy pet beds from Atomic Attic might be exactly what you need. Not recycled but "upcycled," Atomic Attic's pet beds are made from vintage hard suitcases, giving your cat or small dog an extremely stylish place to nap without destroying your colorful, kitschy décor. The bases are formed from old office-chair legs, and the vintage-patterend bedding is replaceable. If you like that, also check out their feeders styled from old VCRs!

It's nap time for your lap dog and you're at the office, working. Where does he plop down for his midday Zs? A couch cushion? A throw pillow? They're aight, but nothing compares to the natural cradle of a human lap.

Enter the Lap of Luxury. These handmade pet beds available on Etsy caught our attention with their bizarre but clever style. If you've got a taste for idiosyncratic decoration and a fair amount of disposable income, a Lap of Luxury might be just what your purse dog has been wanting. Don't let it bruise your ego if he starts choosing his fake lap over yours even when you're around. $175

pet protective bed cover picturePawsOFF

If you have pets, you have to deal with pet fur (and slobber, and occasional icky smells). It's a small price to pay for their undying love and affection, we know, but that doesn't mean we truly want them burrowing in on our beds and ruining our pretty comforters, right?

The PawsOFF Protective Bed Cover is a solution to this problem. It's durable but soft, so your four-legged furballs will enjoy cuddling on it, and it has garters that fasten under the mattress corners, so it'll stay in place no matter how much they try to dig it up.(Read our product review here.)

This week, one lucky Paw Nation reader will win a PawsOFF Protective Bed Cover in the size and color (sand, chocolate or charcoal) of his or her choice!

One Eye Blue (the company whose motto is "cool dog stuff for cool dog people") cares about animals -- and about you -- which is why they've put together this fun prize package.

One lucky Paw Nation reader will win a leash and collar in their choice of color and pattern, as well as a large therapeutic mat. These collars and leashes are of high quality and come in loads of fun prints, so you'll have no trouble finding one that appeals to you (or your dog's) sense of style. The coolest detail: The seat belt buckle clasp that closes the collar -- it works well and looks great.

The therapeutic mat is made of Holofiber, which, according to the company, is designed to work with your dog's body to increase oxygen levels, build strength, boost energy and accelerate muscle recovery. It's easy to use anywhere -- in a crate, to protect a couch cushion or wherever.

To enter, leave a confirmed comment below telling us what kind of pattern or print would look best on your dog.

For those of us who consider our pets as members of our families, it can be difficult to resist the urge to splurge on pet toys and treats. But wouldn't it be nice if the money we spent not only benefited our pets, but also pets in need? Wouldn't you love to support companies that care?

Fortunately, there are many businesses that donate portions of their proceeds to charity. Here are three such companies:

LULODOG
Products: Organic grooming supplies (all ingredients are listed on the LuLoDog Web site) made in a cruelty-free manner. The shampoo we tested (Tangerine & Vanilla) comes in an attractive silver bottle with a pump top, which is so much easier to use than a regular squeeze bottle when you're also holding a dog in place! It was sudsy and smelled delicious, and when the scent wore off, we simply sprayed our pooches down with one of the organic fragrances.

What They Donate: LuLoDog, along with its sister company Wolfe & Sparky (featured after the jump), created and support Pause for Paws, a program which helps dog shelters and rescue organizations throughout the country. They've pledged to donate one of their products for each one that is sold, which means that with each purchase you make, you're also helping a homeless dog become clean and healthy.

What do you look for in a pet bed? Our pets want it to be soft and snuggly, while we want covers that are removable, easy to wash, and available in lots of fun patterns. And petLINENS fits the bill perfectly.

We had a chance to try out a petLINENS bed, testing the XL rectangle so two dogs could fit on it at the same time. The cushion is super soft (don't be fooled when you see it in the box; it actually expands once you take it out), and the plush covers are pretty, particularly the new giraffe print (though they have lots of more traditional colors and patterns available as well).

This week, we're giving away a petLINENS bundled bed set to one lucky Paw Nation reader. The bed sets include two removable and machine-washable slipcovers, and one cushion, available in an extra-large rectangle, or 32" round. The winner will select one cushion and two slipcovers from any of petLINENS' collections, or mix-and-match across collections to find their perfect pet style!

To enter, leave a confirmed comment below telling us where you'd keep your dog's new petLINENS bed.

Cat in Dog Gone Smart Bed picture

Monica Monzingo

My cats love a good place to curl up and nap (the more expensive or delicate the surface, the better), but there is a continuous battle between me -- the neat-freak owner -- and the hair that inevitably builds up on their favorite perches. I've had to retire many a standard cat bed after hair became too thickly mashed and entwined in the bed's fibers, despite my brushing and rubbing with sticky wipes.

Enter the Dog Gone Smart Bed, which, while technically was designed for dogs, is a great option for fur-fighting cat owners too. The patented NanoSphere material boasts anti-odor and anti-stain properties (great for dog owners), but the real innovation is how easy it is to remove hair from it. A month's worth of my two cats' hair was easily removed with a few swipes of damp paper towel, which makes me wish everything in my apartment (and my closet!) was upholstered in the fabric.

As advertised on the company's Web site, both ketchup and honey easily slid off with a quick run under the faucet, and of course, water beads right off without absorbing into the fabric. They company also claims it's easy to cancel out smells and stains from bed-wetting, but I thankfully haven't needed to test the veracity of that claim.
