This January, the shifts that mark the new year will be easy to pick up on, so expect pets to make some changes in their own lives, and yours. Mercury Retrograde will plow on through January 15, so don't be surprised if your pet seems sluggish and difficult to train until mid-month. Jupiter's move into Pisces on January 17 could bring about the beginning of a more teachable period.

For the next year, optimism permeates pets' consciousness and makes them even more of a source of joy and consolation than usual. The Mars Retrograde period in Leo might continue to aggravate some pets, while for others it will provide a chance to go back and get something right, from litter box behavior for cats to agility training for canines.

Venus and the sun will both move from Capricorn to Aquarius on January 18 and 19, respectively. So after January 18, habits will have more of a tendency to get ingrained, whether they're good or bad.

The new moon in Capricorn on January 15 and the full moon in Leo on January 30 will help give your pets the incentive to perform, please and impress. By the end of the month, your efforts to train or get your pet to adapt to big changes will meet with success, and everyone can find the same level of contentment!

December normally is a very busy time, but this year the hustle, bustle and generalized din will be more noticeable than ever. Uranus, the planet of individual assertion, will come out of its long retrograde period, while Venus struts into the party-hearty sign of Sagittarius.

This once-in-a-blue-moon month will prove its uniqueness by offering two Full Moons, while the planet we depend on so much for connections and communication -- Mercury -- will go retrograde on December 26. Forget about a clear path to those end-of-holiday sales! Mars, the planet of action, will also go retrograde, allowing certain feelings to brew and fester for a while. Jupiter and Neptune will get together to make everything seem perfect, at least for a little while, and hope and faith will fill the air -- and not just because it's the season of light. Lastly, the Full Moon Eclipse on New Year's Eve is sure to inspire your pet to growl and howl their way into 2010.
