Cat and Mouse Share Cuddly Nap

Recently, there have been unexpected yet adorable clips of cats sharing quality time with bobcats and gorillas, proving felines are true animal ambassadors. Still, we were genuinely surprised to see this particular video pairing. It appears that a kitten and a mouse have put aside generations of ill will to share a super sweet nap together. We love this interspecies friendship, but what would Tom and Jerry say? See more kittens: ...

They say that you're not actually supposed to bait mouse traps and rat traps with cheese, because mice and rats don't actually like cheese. We know we may have just blown some of your minds with that bit of information, but it turns out that not everything you learned from watching cartoons is completely true. So yay Paw Nation, you ask, what does my fancy rat pal want to snack on if not a bit of cheddar? They want what we all want, according to Daily Squee bakers: cookies! That's why Violet the rat here looks so content while snacking on her first holiday cookie of the season. ...

"Build a better mousetrap, and the world will beat a path to your door," said Ralph Waldo Emerson. And yet here we are in 2011 and mousetraps are essentially the same as they've been since the nineteenth century. That's because they've always been simple and effective. But that doesn't mean they're perfect or foolproof. Many a wily mouse has scored a free chunk of cheese or bit of peanut butter while managing to avoid doom. Here's one such mouse who was able to sneak a snack and then go back for more, all due to a trap that was napping on the job instead of snapping on the job. ...

Flickr/be_khe Mice are extremely social animals and are relatively easy to tame. It's probably best to keep two or more females -- males, unless they're litter mates and have never been separated, are likely to fight bitterly (plus, females don't have as strong a musky scent), according to AFMRA Pet Rats and Mice. Mouse Grooming and Habitat Mice will keep themselves clean, but you'll need to clean their cage (which should be two square feet and, ideally, multi-level) fairly frequently, according to About.com. Glass cages will need to be cleaned more frequently than wire cages as ammonia will build up quickly, and it's recommended you clean before you start to smell a problem. A handy trick ...

Laura Gilbert Wherein I try to get my pets to a healthy cat weight. Catch up on past posts here. The cats have been dieting for over a month, which is a quite a milestone for them. They celebrated this week with another milestone: Tino (I'm assuming) caught his first mouse. He alerted me to this by placing his prize in the doorway to my bedroom, which I suppose is better than if he'd brought it to me in bed. I have several theories about the timing of this. Let me know what you think: 1. My previously spoiled pets were so starving on their new canned-food diet that they were forced to turn to the wild to eat. Sad stuff. 2. The somewhat skinnified cats now have the energy to play and ...
