Close-Up on a Liger Cub

Ligers are the largest member of the cat family, so he has a big future ahead of him -- literally. ...

When brothers Will and Matt Burrard-Lucas decided to tackle a new approach to wildlife photography, their goal was to do so without being eaten by the lions they were photographing. So begins the journey of the BeetleCam, an armored device that allows the British photographers to get up close and personal with wildlife subjects they wouldn't dare approach on foot. Christian The Lion Reunited

Get out the lion-sized tissues guys, because this one is always a tearjerker. This video captures the reunion between Christian the Lion and his two former owners, John Rendall and Ace Bourke. The pair bought Christian the Cub from Harrod's department store back when the sale of such wild animals was legal. afimage, YouTube There's a visceral reaction you might experience during the early moments of this video. Something primal, something instinctual. You're on the African plains, naked, in your hand a crude spear carved from a tree branch. You've been separated from your tribe and you know you're no match for a hungry lioness on your own. Fight is not an option, only flight. Your reptilian brain is firing only one message to every nerve and muscle in your body: Run. But the rational part of your brain reminds you that it's just a YouTube video. You're safe at home and no lioness is actually approaching. Your cold sweat dries. Your legs stop shaking. And as the terrible beast's muzzle closes ...

Julie Larsen Maher © WCS You might remember last May when we told you about those three new lion cubs debuting at the Bronx Zoo. Well, it's been a year, and the three little cub are now slightly less little! We've got this up-to-date photo of the three "teens," who are now about 150 pounds each, according to the zoo. When we wrote about them last year, the zoo was looking for name suggestions for the cubs, and many of you left your own in our comments section. One of those, "Nala," ended up being chosen! That's her on the far left. Next to her is her brother, Shani. Check out the beginnings of his mane. That's sister Adamma to his left. And last but not least, papa M'wasi rounds out the ...
