A Scotts Valley, Calif. man returned home from a quick grocery run to an upsetting surprise: his beloved dog, Knight, was missing. According to KPIX-TV, Naud Robinson reported the theft of his 175-pound Great Dane to the local sheriff's department on Tuesday. Robinson is distraught over the loss of Knight. Not only was the show dog "like a child" to him, but Robinson also spent $27,000 to obtain the pedigreed dog from Australia. Authorities hope that Knight's award-winning traits--his stunning black-and-white coat, large build and four-foot height--will make the dog easier for civilians to spot. See more pricey pets: Robinson believes that the dognappers were aware of Knight's worth ...
I remember my mother telling me when I was a little boy that Great Danes were "the size of a horse." I didn't get that she was exaggerating, and for years I thought that there was this breed of dog that was literally the size of a horse. What she might have said that would've been better is that "Great Danes are large enough for normal-sized dogs to use as slides." And then I would've asked, "But are they patient enough to let other dogs use them as slides?" And my mother would've said "I don't know," but the answer would've been yes. They are. ...
Pet owners condescend to their pets sometimes. Even the most understanding of us have been guilty of underestimating our pets' intelligence. I'm confident that you're seeing it happen in this video. This Great Dane's owner first tries to cajole him into getting out of the tub. Then she tries to to trick him by offering a car ride. "You're pathetic," she finally says. "You're huge; you can just step right out of there." What makes her think he doesn't realize that? He doesn't look distressed. He's not whining for help. Maybe he likes it in that tub. Did she ever think of that? Maybe he's just being stubborn. Maybe that's the look a Great Dane gets on its face when what it means is, "I'm ...

Alik Keplicz / AP Whoa, mama! Hania, a 4-year-old Great Dane in Poland gave birth to 17 perfect puppies last week, reports The Associated Press. The pups -- eight male, nine female -- were delivered by Cesarean section in a nearby veterinary clinic at breeder Gabriela Kubalska's request. It was Hania's first litter, and Kubalska wanted to spare her the long labor that delivering such a big brood would entail. Alik Keplicz / AP It is truly taking a village to care for all these purebred pups. While Hania is constantly nursing them, another female Great Dane has joined in to help with the feedings, so the puppies stay fat and happy. Does this story sound familiar? It should -- just a ...
