WARSAW - Two giraffes in central Poland's Lodz Zoo died of stress after unidentified vandals went on a night-time rampage, the zoo's management said Monday. The vandals broke in overnight Saturday to Sunday, destroying benches, signs and sculptures and hurling pieces of the debris at the animals. One of the giraffes died within hours of the incident and the second was found dead Monday morning. RELATED: Heroin Substitute Found in Deceased Dolphins "The autopsy of the first giraffe, three-year-old female, found a ruptured heart valve and bruising, a sign of a severe stress reaction," the zoo's deputy director Wlodzimierz Stanislawski told AFP. Put aside what ever you are doing, we have an adorable baby animal for you to see. This is the Bronx Zoo's newest resident, a baby Baringo Giraffe. The slender-legged sweetie is currently 6 feet tall and 100 pounds, but will probably grow to be around 16 feet and 2,600 pounds. While this baby has a lot of growing to do she is focused on other pressing matters, like getting kisses from mom, chasing butterflies and galloping aimlessly. Watch her go at it. ...

"C'mere, honey; you got something on your little punim." "Aw Mom, cut that out!" "And let me fix your hair. What a mess! Did you even comb it this morning like I asked?" "That's how I want it to look, Mom!" "Why aren't you wearing that nice new shirt and tie I got for you? I bought them special for you for today. Where are they?" "I'm not wearing a tie to school, Mom. The other giraffes will make fun of me." "No, they will not. They'll think you look smart. The giraffe girls will say you're the cutest boy in the class." "Mom!" "OK, OK, you don't have to wear the tie. But put on that shirt, and comb your hair so it's nice! I don't want your teachers to think I let my son leave the ...

Helena Sung Have you ever felt a giraffe's tongue? You may be surprised to learn that it's scratchy just like a cat's (though much larger). The San Diego Zoo Safari Park (not to be confused with the San Diego Zoo located 35 miles away) is one of the only places I know of where visitors can hand-feed giraffes and rhinos. Situated on 1,800 sprawling acres, the Safari Park was designed to mimic the African savannah and Asian plains that are the natural habitats for the thousands of wild animals and endangered species that call the park home. On a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon, I climbed into the back of a flatbed truck to embark on a Photo Caravan Tour of the Safari Park. Though pricey ...

Ah, young love. What better way to signify the first blush of, um, fall? OK, so maybe a couple of baby giraffes necking (get it?) in the African plains (or an environment made to look like the African plains) isn't an image particularly associated with the autumnal equinox. But just look at these two in this cute picture from Daily Squee. The shape of their long necks even sort of looks like a heart! And here at Paw Nation, we say that any time is a good time for love. Michael A. Mariant, AP The deaths of two of Michael Jackson's pet giraffes are creating a media circus of their own. PETA is accusing the creatures' caretakers of neglect and asking Arizona police to confiscate two remaining living giraffes that belonged to the late King of Pop, E! Online reports. Jabbar and Rambo died on Nov. 20 and Jan. 2, respectively, while under the custody of Tom and Freddie Hancock, owners of the Banjoko Wildlife Preserve in Page, Ariz. where all four of Jackson's giraffes had been living since 2006.
