ducklings.

After Dennis the duckling lost his mother, he soon found a new friend and caretaker in Fred the Labrador Retriever. It's the kind of interspecies animal relationship you can't help "awww"-ing about. According to the U.K. Daily Mail, the pair formed their bond after the duckling's mother was killed by a fox. Dennis was only a week old, too young to make it on his own. Fred found the abandoned duckling and immediately began licking him clean. Seeing the link between the two, Fred's owner, Jeremy Goldsmith, took the baby duck in. RELATED: Play the Who's Cutest game! Today, Fred and Dennis are inseparable. The pair do everything together at their home in Stansted, Essex, including swimming in ...

If a local-news reporter rescues a brood of ducklings stuck in a storm drain, is it news? Well, to us it certainly is, but we're Paw Nation. We're not as convinced that "Good Morning America" had to broadcast it to the whole country on network TV. Maybe it was a slow news day, but we have a sneaking suspicion that Josh Elliot's need to make a series of duck-related puns was a motivating factor in getting the piece aired in the first place. Not that we're looking down on Elliot; baby animals and puns are our bread and butter. Forget grumpy old George Stephanopoulos, Josh. Come hang out with us instead! ...

"Dad, can you buy me a genuine original Duncan Butterfly yo-yo?" "What in blazes is that?" "I saw it on TV!" "All that means is that it's probably more expensive than a regular yo-yo. I'll get you a regular yo-yo." "But Dad, it's not the same!" "A regular yo-yo was good enough for me when I was your age. I did the Walk the Dog with a regular yo-yo. I did the Around the World with a regular yo-yo." "But I don't wanna Walk the Dog or Around the World; I wanna hypnotize ducks." "You want to do what?" "The guy on TV hypnotized these ducklings with a genuine original Duncan Butterfly! I wanna do that!" "I do not understand what you kids spend your money on these days." ...

Make way for ducklings! And be patient. That step doesn't look like much to you or me, but scale it to your height and see how quickly you can negotiate the obstacle. Now try it without hands. All of a sudden these ducklings look like superheroes, don't they? We really love watching tiny animals overcome their daunting, human-size challenges. In Zibo, China, a dude found an adorable stray puppy on the street. Out of the kindness of his heart, he took the dog in, domesticating the rescued pup as only a good person who rescues an animal would. So that's awesome. The same dude also brought in a duckling as a pet for his daughter. (It remains to be seen whether this happened before or after the pup joined the family.) Needless to say, the pup and duckling are inseparable, and we've just witnessed on of the year's cutest cases of inter-species love yet. ...
