Today we're featuring Paw Nation editor Paul Ciampanelli's own pet cat, Martha.

Name: Martha

Location: Hollywood, Calif.

Age: 3

Favorite Toy: "Martha loves to play fetch with those generic black, gray and white rattle mice that can be found in any pet store," Paul says. "She also remains attached to the teddy bear she's had since she was a newborn kitten. When I adopted her from my brother's friend, she came with the teddy, so it's been in her life longer than I have."

Favorite Treat: Like a lot of cats, whenever Martha smells that Paul is making tuna or chicken, she'll come running to the kitchen for a yummy sample as a special treat.

Likes: Napping under the covers, hiding in open bags and boxes, playing fetch.

Dislikes: Martha is affectionate but she's not a lap cat. "She doesn't like to snuggle and won't tolerate being held for much more than about 30 seconds at the most," Paul says. He adds that Martha also apparently has "sensitive" hearing. "She really seems to be put off by my singing, and she especially hates when I whistle."

Weird Quirks: Martha has had a foot fetish all her life, according to Paul. "For one thing, she loves to nuzzle against anyone's toes. She also had intense, even mildly inappropriate love affairs with several pairs of my former roommate's shoes. And when she fetches her toy mice, she always drops them in my boots instead of by wherever I happen to be sitting."

Fun Fact: Paul named Martha after two songs: "Little Martha" by the Allman Brothers Band, and "Martha My Dear" by the Beatles.

Fun Fact: Merle recently was rehomed to Austin from North Texas after his then-owner was seriously injured. Reluctant to adopt a cat as old as Merle, his new owner made sure he had a clean bill of health and vet approval. "Now we are snug as bugs in a rug," she says.
