Sara Cannon A couple in Canada is offering a highly unconventional reward to whoever finds their lost Bernese mountain dog -- a reward that may help shape a person's identity. According to CNews, Dan and Sara Cannon have agreed to name their first-born child (due in three weeks) after the person who rescues their beloved pup Molly Jane. A Possible Dognapping The Cannons let Molly Jane out into their yard in Richmond, Ontario, on the evening of Jan. 4, and never saw her again. After learning of a failed abduction plot involving a male Bernese in a nearby town only hours before Molly's disappearance, the Cannons fear that Molly was the victim of a dognapping. After going through all the ...
Edmonton Humane Society They say Christmas is a time for giving, but one shepherd mix in Canada really went above and beyond. According to the Winnipeg Free Press, this severely injured single mother found room in her heart to adopt an orphaned kitten -- raising the feline like it was one of her own. Esperanza, a fluffy white shepherd mix, was discovered on a wilderness reserve near Red Deer in Central Alberta by animal rescue worker Criss Gerwing earlier this month, according to the Free Press. Esperanza had reportedly been hit by a car and her leg was badly broken. When Gerwing approached the friendly pooch, this exceptional mother led her straight to a den where she was nursing a very ...

According to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, residents in Northern Canada's remote communities joined forces with the IFAW and numerous animal shelters throughout Canada to find homes for 29 of the unwanted canines. On Tuesday, the rescue endeavor went international, when the remaining seven dogs arrived at Long Island's Farmingdale Airport. From there, the dogs were ...

by Cat Lincoln Watch the (non-graphic) HSUS video about the seal hunt. Photo: HSUS I was caught by surprise again this year: the Canadian commercial seal hunt started yesterday, which I found out in an alert from the Humane Society of the United States. It just doesn't make any sense to me -- how can the brutal bludgeoning and murder of defenseless baby seals continue, year after year, with permission from the Canadian government, despite having every possible reason to stop the hunt? In past years -- I mean long ago -- commercial fishermen would pick up some extra cash during the spring off-season by hunting seal for the international fur market. That particular form of ...
