A New Jersey bear decided to revise an elementary school's lesson plan last week. According to Gothamist, a 75-pound bear broke through the glass door of Ogdensburg Elementary School last Friday. After charging through the door, the animal decided to stay awhile and scamper through the school's hallways. School custodian Earl Hornyak said he saw the bear crash through the door and decided to chase after it, hoping to direct the bear out the way it came in. Instead, the bear chose to turn into a classroom, surprising teacher Judy Donche, who was preparing her lesson plan for the next day. Do you ever get the feeling you're being watched? Well, it might be true -- if you're Lily the Bear, anyway. This three-year-old black bear, living outside of Ely, Minn., has been observed via live Web cam throughout the course of her hibernation as part of a research experiment led by the Wildlife Research Institute. The "Lily Show" was established to observe her behaviors in the den. And people watching on January 22 got to see a very special episode: the birth of Lily's cub! This marks the first time a bear giving birth has ever been recorded in the wild (or on Facebook). Thousands tried tuning in, causing the Bear Cam to experience server overload. A video of the event later was posted ...

Of course in her case, "the ordinary" included heaving a shovelful of food to one side of the cage for her bear to eat while she cleaned the other side. During the nine years she kept the bear, she always left its cage unharmed after this routine. On Sunday, that lucky streak went cold when the bear attacked her without any apparent provocation. Walz's children witnessed the attack and called for help. A neighbor shot and ...

Photo: Tina White, Snowmass Police / AP One black bear thought it would be gnarly to sneak onto a sunken skatepark in the resort town of Snowmass, Colo. on Monday. Unfortunately, we don't think he thought he'd be spending the night there. The Daily Mail reports that on Tuesday morning, when the bear was discovered, workers from the Parks and Recreation Department had to lower a ladder down into one of the skate bowls in order to save the stuck bear. The poor guy couldn't get out because of the bowl's smooth sides and curved edges, the Daily Mail continues. We hope this giant shredder learned his lesson -- and next time brings his board with him! ...

Q: What's scarier than the prospect of a black bear roaming through residential Northeast Ohio? A: The fact that Cleveland's Fox News affiliate thought it would be prudent to recreate the sightings by puppeteering a life-size cardboard cut-out of a bear, explaining, "This is what the bear probably looked like -- except real." ...
