The star of "Dear John" has a new guy in her life -- and its serious. "He's the love of my life," Seyfried says.

The lucky fella is an Australian shepherd puppy named Finn, Seyfried revealed on Unscripted. "He's a little guy with a big heart," the actress told her "Dear John" co-star Channing Tatum during a chat about the film and their personal lives.

He won't stay little for long. Male Aussie shepherds traditionally grow to about 20 to 23 inches tall, according to the AKC. Seyfried is expecting him to be at least 50 pounds, at which points she admits she won't be able to pick him up.

The highly intelligent dogs are known for being especially attached to their owners, so maybe it's good that Seyfried is slated to have time opening up in her schedule for some one-on-one with her favorite pup? The "Big Love" star is confirmed to be leaving the HBO series sometime this season.

Personality: The Australian shepherd is a breed of superlatives. It is considered one of the smartest dogs around, with the most energy. It can be intensely loyal and devoted to its owners and very wary of strangers.A well-trained Australian shepherd can be an incredibly loving addition to many families. In fact, the Australian shepherd is nicknamed a "velcro" dog in canine-centric circles because of its intense attachment to its owners.

Grooming: While the coat of an Australian shepherd can vary in density, all should receive a weekly brushing with a slicker brush, followed by a rake brush. Be especially considerate of spots on the dog that are prime for matting problems: the legs, front and back, and behind the ears. Aussies tend to shed heavily once a year, usually in late spring or early summer, due to increased sunlight. (This is one reason why Aussies should not be kept as indoor dogs; the unnatural, indoor light will screw up their natural shedding schedules.)

One Utah dog and her family will have a much happier holiday now that the pooch is home, safe and sound.

Millie, an Australian shepherd, disappeared about three weeks ago from her home in Cottonwood Heights. Her owner, Sue Garr, presumed she'd jumped the six-foot fence in their back yard, and told KSL TV, "Our whole family was absolutely sick."

A woman walked by a storm drain about two miles from the Garrs' home and heard a dog barking from within. She called 911, and a scared, skinny, smelly Millie was coaxed out by the police.

When she saw her family, "She went nuts," Garr told KSL TV.

Before her rescue, the freezing temperatures had most people doubting that Millie could have survived, but fortunately, the storm drain was about 10 degrees warmer than the temperature on the street, reports KSL TV. It's assumed Millie survived on storm water and rats, though we're certain she'll be showered with some tastier treats now that she's home.

While Garr said they don't plan to increase the height of their already tall fence, she did tell KSL TF that one change would be made: "She's going to become an indoor dog."
