Introducing a new member of the family is always a bit nerve-wracking, but we'd have to say it's even more so when the family members in question are not only of different species, but are often enemies!

Jennifer of West Covina, Calif., however, is a smart pet mama, and she either did something quite right or really lucked out when she brought her adorable orange kitten home to meet the other "kids." Her rabbit might have taken his time getting to know the little kitty, but eventually, the pair decided to be pals, giving Jennifer the perfect picture to send to "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" for the Unlikely Animal Pairs gallery.

Submissions are still being accepted, so send your unusual animal pair pictures into Ellen today!

More Cute Animals

Is there anything more adorable than a picture of unlikely animals buddying up? Sure there is: Video of it!

While we at Paw Nation are certainly experts in the field of cute, our friends at "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" are pretty well-educated on the adorable too. That's why they're looking for folks to send in a cute video of two cute animals acting all adorable together.

Did you get video of your guinea pig getting cozy with your poodle? Or your big dog nuzzling a little kitten? Whatever you've got, Ellen wants to see it, so send it in to Ellen's website for a chance to have your video featured on the show!

Everyone knows that Ellen DeGeneres is a big animal lover. Well, Season 8 of her show launches today and she's seeking pictures of unlikely animal pairs to potentially feature on her website or maybe even be shown on television!

That's where you come in, dear Paw Nation readers!

Perhaps your chihuahua is in love with your parakeet, or maybe you snapped a picture of a horse cozied up to a chipmunk. If you've got a great shot, head over to Ellen's website to submit it.

We're celebrating Paw Nation's first birthday by bringing back a few of our very favorite posts and galleries. Some make us laugh while others, like the gallery of peculiar pairings below, make us wonder why we can't all just get along. After all, if a hippo and a tortoise can forge a lasting friendship, maybe we have a shot at world peace! Or at least a happier relationship with our crazy neighbors.

There's an orangutan whose best friend is a hound dog; a cat whose playmate is a crow; an elephant whose constant companion is a Chow-mix dog; a baby hippo who pursues a friendship with a 130 year-old tortoise; a lioness who bonds with baby antelope; and the story of Christian, a lion cub purchased at Harrod's Department Store in 1969, who remembers his first owners a year after returning to the wild.

You may have seen them on Youtube, but now in "Unlikely Animal Friends," the National Geographic channel explores these six unusual animal bonds in depth with extensive footage, interviews with the animals' owners and commentary by experts.

Perplexing as the unlikely friendships are, they illustrate the "ability of animals to feel complex emotions," says one expert on the show. Love and compassion, it seems, are not solely the domain of humans: witness other inter-species videos such as the fawn who bathes a cat and the dog who befriends a duck.

The one-hour program, "Unlikely Animal Friends," premieres this Saturday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the National Geographic channel.
