IFAW Thirty-six stray dogs have been granted a reprieve from a "dog shoot" by a very vocal dog-loving minority in rural Canada -- with a little help from an international team of animal-welfare organizers. Seven of those, including the five pictured here, have arrived in New York and are looking for homes. According to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, residents in Northern Canada's remote communities joined forces with the IFAW and numerous animal shelters throughout Canada to find homes for 29 of the unwanted canines.
