Martha Stewart got a bit more than she bargained for from her beloved French bulldog, Francesca, when she bent down to whisper a quick goodbye in the snoozing pup's ear. Rather than a whiff of dog breath or a quick lick, Stewart received an accidental headbutt from the startled dog, sending the domestic diva to the hospital, where she received nine stitches, reports USA Today.

On a side note -- doesn't it seem that if one of her dogs were to cause an injury, it would be the one named Sharkey?

According to Stewart's blog, she returned home from trips to South America and Florida on Tuesday night, and, since a major snowstorm was predicted that night, she planned to just unpack and play a little with the dogs before driving to New York City in order to make her 7 a.m. call for "The Today Show" and 9 a.m. taping of her own show.

Upon saying her canine goodbyes, Stewart received the aforementioned hit to the lip -- something that frightened Stewart and the dog in equal measure: "I was entirely startled and my neck snapped back. I felt a bit of whiplash as blood gushed forth from my split lip. Frannie was as upset as I was and cowered in her bed," Stewart writes on her blog.

She quickly realized she had a pretty major wound and arranged to get to the hospital and have a plastic surgeon meet her there. And there's no need to worry -- she assured her audience, "I'll be alright facially ... I'm not rushing to get a face-lift any time soon!"

Just another reason to let sleeping dogs lie, eh?

Watch out, Ghenghis Khan has come to town.
That's the name of the chow chow cutie Martha Stewart recently brought home to her beloved French bulldogs Francesca and Sharkey (who maintain their own blog at the Daily Wag). If these photos of the Frenchies and G.K. (as he's been nicknamed) are any indication, it is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
This joyful addition is particularly heartwarming when you consider that the name is an homage to Stewart's former chow chow puppy named Ghenghis Khan, who perished along with 16 other dogs in a Pennsylvania kennel fire in 2008.

Martha Stewart has reportedly apologized to Jessica Simpson for seemingly unsympathetic comments Martha made about the loss of Jessica's dog, Daisy. But is Martha really sorry? Read on and decide for yourself.

Daisy, a Maltese poodle mix who was Jessica's constant companion for the last five years, was snatched by a coyote on September 14 and has not been seen since, despite the efforts of pet detectives. The day after it happened, Martha publicly chastised Jessica, telling Usmagazine.com, "It's pretty sad. She should have watched it more closely, though. She should have been more careful."

Ouch. Daisy's disappearance and presumed death has reportedly left Jessica at the "lowest point in her life" and friends worry that the singer and reality star is headed for a "tailspin."

Perhaps Martha read those news reports. Or maybe the domestic maven-turned-talk show host recalled what it felt like to suddenly lose a cherished pet, such as when her Chow, Genghis Kahn, was killed in a kennel explosion earlier this year. In any event, Martha took a moment on her eponoymous daytime talk show this week to express her condolences to Jessica.

"I said that she should have been watching her dog more closely, but I feel very, very sorry for anybody that loses a pet," Martha said on her show Thursday. "Jessica, I hope you find your pet, but if you don't, I'm really sorry that you lost one."

While Martha is clearly sorry for Jessica's loss, it doesn't appear that she was apologizing for the critical comments she made about Jessica's dog caring skills. Or does it? Well, at least Martha said she was sorry in one form or another. And that's a good thing.
