Tad Motoyama, Los Angeles Zoo It's hatchling season at the Los Angeles Zoo. Last January, a female Komodo dragon named Lima laid 23 eggs. In August, 22 of those eggs cracked open to reveal scurrying baby lizards, according to the L.A. Zoo. Betty White, a trustee of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association, was able to meet some of the hatchlings firsthand. Komodo dragons are the world's largest lizards. The hatchlings, which range from 14 to 20 inches long at birth, will soon grow to nine feet long and tip the scales at 200 pounds.
