A stray cat saved the life of Leland Duff, 85, after his fruit stand went up in flames. The cat did not belong to Duff at first, but because the it frequented his fruit stand, Duff welcomed the cat into his home inside the back of the building. One early morning, around 4 a.m., the cat let out a meow, waking Duff from his slumber. According to Tulsa World, Duff said he awoke and wondered what was wrong with the cat. One hero dog went from average pet to canine life guard, saving a 14-month-old's life. According to WOOD-TV, a Michigan dog named Bear kept a young boy afloat after the child fell into a pool. The little boy's mother, Patricia Drauch, said the dramatic day escalated quickly. She and her son, Stanley, were gardening together, when suddenly Drauch noticed the boy was no longer by her side. Mike Brenner said that he and his girlfriend were sleeping when they heard his dog start barking. After the normally calm dog continued crying out, Brenner's girlfriend decided to check on her. A family in Plainfield, Ill. was saved by an unusual--and furry--fire alarm: their dog. According to the WGN-TV, Payton the dog woke his family after detecting a blaze in their home. The fire broke out in the family's basement during the night while everyone was sleeping. Payton detected the fire and roused the homeowner's young son, who promptly alerted the rest of the family.
