Chow Chow.
Munch came in to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control in Charlotte, NC, in November 2010. A 2-month-old stray, his outlook was grim. He was boisterous and hyper, and a big black dog (labeled a Chow Chow mix) to boot. To make matters worse, he had serious health problems: He had severe injuries after being attacked by another dog; he also had mange, and soon developed kennel cough. But because Charlotte-Mecklenburg is one of four pilot shelters of the Petfinder Foundation's Train to Adopt (TTA) program, trainer Karen Owens was able to work with Munch after he'd recovered from his injuries and illness. "The chow chow is an awesome creature with his lion-like appearance and regal manner." But this breed's got more than just looks going for it. "The chow was bred to be an all-around working dog," says Chow Chow Information and Adoption Center, "capable of surviving in a hostile environment. Hunting, herding, guarding, pulling sleds -- the chow could do it all." The American Kennel Club notes, "Their cat-like personalities make them independent, stubborn and less eager to please than other breeds." Grooming: "Regular grooming ...
Watch out, Ghenghis Khan has come to town. That's the name of the chow chow cutie Martha Stewart recently brought home to her beloved French bulldogs Francesca and Sharkey (who maintain their own blog at the Daily Wag). If these photos of the Frenchies and G.K. (as he's been nicknamed) are any indication, it is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. This joyful addition is particularly heartwarming when you consider that the name is an homage to Stewart's former chow chow puppy named Ghenghis Khan, who perished along with 16 other dogs in a Pennsylvania kennel fire in 2008. dailywag.marthastewart.com dailywag.marthastewart.com dailywag.marthastewart.com ...
