Alligators.
You can change its scenery, but a wild animal's instincts can rarely be completely removed, as one man found of out the hard way. According to The Inquistir, things took a scary turn at an alligator wrestling match at the Cuyahoga County Fair in Ohio when the animal bit a trainer's arm. The trainer, Daniel Beck, was performing his regular wrestling routine with a large alligator when the animal was able to reach around and bite him. The alligator delivered the chomp on the trainer's elbow when Beck was attempting to take the creature to the ground from the back. The audience reacted in screams and rushed to cover up the eyes of children. The producer of the show jumped into the ...
TOKYO, (AFP) -- A Japanese zoo has turned to rhythmical banging on traditional drums in a bid to encourage some enthusiasm for sex among lust-lacking alligators. Zookeepers said Wednesday they hoped the low booming sound produced by large Japanese "taiko" drums would spur lethargic Chinese alligators to begin mating because of its similarity to the animals' natural pre-coital cry. RELATED: Deep Sea Squid Goes Both Ways "After listening to the drum performance, the female alligator Susu cried a few times but the male, Yoyo, appeared not to be interested," said Hideaki Yamamoto from Sapporo's Maruyama Zoo. Michael Pastore of Animal Care & Control. Egan-Chin, Daily News If anyone's ever mocked you for falling for an urban legend or a farfetched tale, today is the day you get to say, "I told you so." A baby alligator (originally reported as a crocodile) mysteriously appeared in Astoria, Queens, N.Y. this past weekend, the N.Y. Daily News reports. OK, no one actually saw the two-foot-long scaly creature emerging from the sewer, but it was hiding out under a Datsun on the street which is close enough. When novelist Joyce Hackett spotted the animal, she told the Daily News, "The poor little thing looked dazed and confused." Fortunately, cops were able to snag the alligator and bring it to ...
9-year-old Samantha Young of Colorado wrestles alligators. More astonishing, she's been doing it since she was 6 years old, reports the (U.K.) Telegraph. "We've never been too worried about Samantha wrestling alligators because she's been around them her whole life," her father, Jay Young, tells the Telegraph. Her dad might not be worried, but watching this video isn't exactly comforting. While Samantha does seem very adept, we aren't so sure how good an idea recreational alligator wrestling is. And you have to wonder how the animals feel about being part of this sport. The Young family owns and operates Colorado Gators Reptile Park in Mosca, Colo. The 12-acre farm is home to 350 of ...
Former ministry mascot, Amos the alligator, John Fitch John Fitch loves alligators. A lot. And he's not content watching them on TV or spotting them in the wild. Fitch likes keeping them around the house. The Quaker minister, 53, admits that he's been fascinated with reptiles since he was a kid, but his mother refused to let him keep any as pets. "They used to sell alligators for two dollars at Woolworth's," Fitch says. Fitch's current reptile buddy is named Erwin, a young 30 inch long gator, who lives in a giant, octagon-shaped jacuzzi tub in the ministry's pantry room in Richmond, Ind. "The tub is 6 feet around and waist high, so Erwin can't climb out of it," says Fitch. "People can ...
