Bacall's will stipulates that $10,000 be entrusted to her youngest son, Sam Robards, 53, to continue caring for the dog, a Papillon named Sophie.

Most of Bacall's fortune will be divided between her children and stepchildren.

According to neighbors and those close to her, Bacall's devotion to Sophie was absolute. "Betty never went anywhere without that dog," said Jacqui Kaese, an acting coach who was present on the set of one of Bacall's last films. "That dog was royalty."

betty (lauen) .. had a king charles spaniel for years growing up.. it was part of their family from the bronx/ bklyn/ nyc and ca. went everywhere with them .. this is from her book MYSELF.. she was a love of animals and family..you would see her in central park here ... yes she took care of them all..education was a must..I read nothing about her stepchildren which is sam's brother and sister .. not the children after their divorce, cause by his alcoholism and running around. Lauren was one very classy lady and did it her way .Bettie davis was her idol and they finally met after a broadway show.

Good for her, 10K is hardly a fortune, enough to keep the dog very happy, seems like the will was done in such a way everyone benefited.

I've left double that to my dog. It takes a lot of money for food, vet care and if the dog gets a major disease. Bravo for Lauren Bacall!

Don't source Fox News Ever. EVER. According the multiple other (and more reliable) sources, she left 10K to Sophie's care, $500K to her young grandsons (specified use: for college, her 4 other grandkids are adults ranging in age from 24-44, and presumably she paid for theirs as well while she was living), 35K to staff, and the rest to her THREE children-there was nothing about stepchildren in the will whatsoever.
Her son Sam was likely entrusted in Sophie's care as he resides in New York, while her older two children reside in California and Florida and have dogs of their own. Plus, with two teenage sons (three boys-24, 15, 13),she'll likely be kept active compared to living with Bacall's daughter or elder son.

Sounds like a very normal woman to me , left an extra 10k with a son show she probably thought was the best choice for her pup. Not like some wackos who leave an estate to an animal that can't leave a will.

Ms. Bacall was such a lovely woman. Possibly one of the most beautiful and talented women in her generation. It's sad to hear of her passing. May she rest in peace. Made a tribute memorial for her in The Memorium. http://www.thememorium.com/Memorials/lauren-bacall RIP
