Cat Saves Boy From Dog Attackthe daily dish
A 4-year-old boy in Bakersfield, Calif., was saved from a vicious dog attack when his family cat chased off the canine, according to KERO-TV news.
Jeremy Triantafilo was playing in the driveway at his home when a neighbor's dog caught sight of the boy. The dog approached Jeremy and attacked him unprovoked, biting into his leg and dragging him.
The attack lasted only a few seconds before the Triantafilo family cat, Tara, bolted to Jeremy's side and chased the dog away. Jeremy's mother Erica, who was nearby in the yard, also came running when she heard her son's screams.
"I didn't really even realize what had happened until after when my husband showed me the surveillance video," Erica told KERO-TV.
Jeremy required 10 stitches for bite wounds on his leg, but thanks to Tara's quick defense, his injuries were much less severe than they could have been.
"Thankfully, my son is fine," wrote Jeremy's father Roger Triantafilo, in the description of the video he uploaded to YouTube showing the attack. The clip was viewed more than 100,000 times in a matter of hours.
"I've never seen a cat do that," Roger told KERO-TV. "Especially ours. It just shows how much she really has a family-oriented mindset."
Jeremy himself added, "Tara is my hero."
The dog that attacked Jeremy reportedly had escaped past a gate when its owner pulled their vehicle out of the driveway. The dog was sent to Bakersfield Animal Control for observation. TMZ reported that the dog was in a continued state of aggression when it was picked up by authorities and is going to be euthanized.
