Larger litter box may help and also keep it clean...clean at least twice a day and keep a minimum of 3" litter in the box. I have 3 indoor cats with no problems.
There is three cats next door ,that think our yard, garden and flower beds are a litter box. I would like some info on how to STOP this, it smells bad . I dont want to kill them !
I also have this problem; worse yet, our neighborhood grounds are contaminated with feline diseases (and the area is a bird migration path & stopover); but owners refuse to contain thier cats! I love cats, but they should not be allowed to roam the neighborhood, for many reasons.
Throwing a shoe works pretty well but a more permanent solution can be found.
SHOOT THE CAT
Let the cat be him/herself and go outside and get rid of their anxiety. Their lives indoors will improve substantially.
As of late my cat stopped using the litter box. This morning I found another pew on the carpet
This is an old post, but .... here goes. First, if the cat is not spayed or neutered, get it done right away. Always scoop the litter every day or even twice a day till the problem is solved. Totally wash the litter box every few weeks. DO NOT use those supposedly self-cleaning litter boxes. Nasty. Use a scoopable "fragrant-free" litter. If you have a litter box that has a top on it, you may need to take it off for awhile so the odors are not trapped inside the box... cats like clean. If you have more than one cat, you will need more than one litter box. There is a product called "Nature's Miracle". It not only removes nasty odors, it also does not add perfumy smells to the problem ... best product I have found for "accidents". After trying this tips, if your cat is still peeing outside the box, it could be a urinary infection. Vet time. Good luck. Hint... I use cheap bags to bag the litter at scooping time. I have a flower pot outside the backdoor to drop it in. Then, I take it to the trash can every time I take out the household trash.
