Animal Planet's cat behaviorist Jackson Galaxy is agreeing to take on the case of the disgruntled feline that attacked and trapped an Oregon family in its bedroom. The feline's owners had originally planned to keep the cat but have since decided to take it to an animal shelter, as reported by the Associated Press.

The fate of Lux the cat became a hot Internet topic when Portland resident Lee Palmer called 911 to report that the family pet attacked his baby and trapped them, along with his girlfriend and dog, in a bedroom in their home. Palmer said the incident took a severe turn when the cat scratched the baby after it pulled the animal's tail. He said he kicked the cat to get it away from his child, leading the cat to turn highly aggressive. The public has since become divided about whether or not the blame lays with the owners or the cat.

"Every parental site on the Internet blames the cat for this confrontation. Every pet site blames the family," said Galaxy, host of Animal Planet's "My Cat From Hell." "We need to step away from the hysteria. There is a story behind all this. Don't assume anything."

Even though the family has since taken Lux to an animal shelter, they have agreed to therapy with Galaxy and Lux. Galaxy is heading to Portland to film the episode for his show's fifth season.

The cat behaviorist believes there are various reasons why a cat can turn aggressive. There is no one way to deal with all of those possibilities, but he is determined to find out what set off Lux, 4-year-old part-Himalayan mix that weighs 22 pounds.

"I have no idea what made Lux aggressive," Galaxy said. "If you want a blanket statement on how to deal with aggression, how about 'Don't set the cat up for failure.'"

The thing that most bothered Galaxy was Lux's continued assault at the bedroom door after any threats to the feline were removed. Galaxy is also considering that Lux could have just been in a grumpy mood and lashed out as a warning.

"If I have a headache, I won't be the nicest guy in the world. I may snap at you," Galaxy said. "This may have been Lux's way of snapping. Hypothetically speaking, someone pulling his tail may have been the last straw."

I can't believe I read some of these awful comments about putting Lux down. Really, people? For the ones who said dogs are better.. it would of been a different story if a dog would of attacked a family, and then you'll be saying "put the dog down because it snapped. All because the baby pulled its tail and the owner kicked it." No matter what kind of animal it is, we as adults and some as parents, need to teach each child not to mess with an animal. If you can't handle keeping an animal with a child in the house, and your afraid it might hurt the baby, then don't get an animal. Period.

And also, I'm glad to hear Jackson stepped in to save the poor kitty. I bet if he didn't hear about this story, poor Lux would of probably be in death row, or maybe dead by now.

Lux weighs 13 lbs according to the humane society, where his humans took Lux, then selfishly retrieved him less than 24 hrs later. Lux is back living in a small apt with a large dog, a baby who pulled his tail, a man who kicked him and hysterically called police (along with the baby mama). If not for his human's thoughts of tv fame, poor Lux might be preparing for life in a quiet new home. Instead, he is probably headed for disaster.

duh...u have to love them and respect their attitude and they will love and treat u the same.....cats are very smart and are loving when they are loved just have to give them their space, and not hurt them because they WILL retaliate....

Duh! What did he expect to happen after the cat had his tail pulled and then got kicked! This man has abused this cat in the past!

Hopefully Jackson will find out what exactly set the cat off and then find a decent, intelligent home for him. I don't believe those parents can handle more than one child and so should just raise their son, hopefully with some help from better, more experienced parents.

I had a cat like that, I took her in off the streets, she was so aggressive, she would bite, scratch and claw at anyone who got near her. I took her to a Vet, after she was spayed and declawed, front paws only, she was so very gentle. Cats get aggressive like that because, they were abused, mistreated and abandon. My cat was 23 years old, when she passed away and I miss her so very much.

Lets see, dogs vs. cats, dogs are used to help the blind, sniff out bombs, drugs, dead bodies and are used by the police to keep people in their place. Cats do none of these but they can keep the rat population down and in some contries cats are food to eat. And as I wrote earlier put poor Lux in a barn near a silo and it will lose weight as it fen's for itself.
