Dogs who love attention are a dime for two dozen, but cats tend to shy away from the spotlight. It’s pretty rare for the pawparazzi to catch a celebrity with a cat, but it does happen, maybe even more than you’d think. Read on for 10 instances of celebrities and cats crossing paths over the last year.
When Tina Fey posed for Entertainment Weekly magazine in an Audrey Hepburn “Breakfast at Tiffany's” getup, some genius realized that her Holly Golightly costume would never be complete without Cat. We don’t know how much of a cat lover Fey actually is, but we appreciate her commitment to the character. (Fun fact: Audrey Hepburn claimed that the scene in which she has to throw Cat into a rainy street was the “most distasteful thing” she ever had to do in a film.) Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld is not shy about discussing his obsession with his cat, Choupette. Lagerfeld has said he was never a cat person, but quickly fell for Choupette after receiving her as a gift. He and his staff dote on the cat day and night. (She has two maids dedicated to her care.) Earlier this year, Lagerfeld said that he would straight-up marry Choupette if it were legal. And finally, this fall, the inevitable happened: Lagerfeld launched a new collection called Choupette, inspired by his beloved pet. (Vogue)
RYAN ADAMS AND MANDY MOORE
Married musicians Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore are avowed pet lovers. The couple own several cats and dogs, and continue to add to their menagerie of domestic animals. Their latest acquisition is a pair of kittens named Addison and Maddie, whom Adams and Moore adopted in July of this year. (Petfinder)
Actor Ian Somerhalder of “The Vampire Diaries” and “Lost” has gotten involved with several charities that benefit wildlife. But at home, he’s a true cat guy. He owns three: Dennis, Jama-Lynx and Moke. Somerhalder told People Pets, "One is a feral cat from Hawaii who grew up in the jungle, another one is a rescue from a dungeon in New York and the other one's from Canada." Somerhalder’s good deeds and cat love earned him the ultimate reward earlier this year: an audience with Grumpy Cat herself. (Buzzfeed)
Actor. Director. Writer. Painter. Student. Teacher. James Franco is one of the more prolific Renaissance men in Hollywood. We can add “cat lover” to the multihyphenate’s already long list of titles. This spring, he tweeted a photo of his cat, Lux, curled up with a book. What book was it? We don’t actually know, but we’re willing to bet money that it was written by James Franco. (Perez Hilton)
HOWARD AND BETH STERN
When Howard Stern married Beth Ostrosky, he also married her cat obsession. The self-described “crazy cat lady” owns four cats of her own. But that doesn’t mean the Sterns have only four cats in the house. They also provide foster care for several more cats. As of September, the Sterns had six foster kittens tearing around their place. That’s 10 total felines for those of you who can’t do quick math. “We definitely have a full house of pets and I absolutely love it," Beth Stern said. (People)
There’s something about a Hemsworth standing next to the king of the jungle that feels really natural, isn’t there? We’re sure Liam’s brother Chris Hemsworth could roll with big cats, too. After all, he’s the god of thunder. We don’t know what Liam is the god of. Probably just the god of looking cool as hell standing next to a lion, which he did last year for a clothing company’s ad campaign. (Buzzfeed)
She may be the mother of dragons on “Game of Thrones,” but she’s the owner of cats on stage. Like Tina Fey before her, Emilia Clarke proved that the character of Holly Golightly is indivisible from her cat, Cat. To promote her role in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” on Broadway, Clarke brought her feline costar with her to a press conference in March. (Daily Mail U.K.)
Tabloid websites are full of pictures showing celebrities walking their dogs. Yes, even celebrity pooches need exercise and bathroom breaks every day, and the paparazzi are always around. What’s much more rare is a celebrity out in public with a cat. Cats like to stay home in the shadows. But pop singer Ke$ha is different and so is her cat, Mr. Peep$. They both seem to enjoy the flash of cameras. Here they are on the street, looking all glittery together. (Buzzfeed)

When asked during a recent interview what his favorite animal is, pop star Justin Bieber answered “Toots.” For non-Beliebers: Toots is Bieber’s pet cat. At the very least, Bieber cares about Toots more than he cared about Mally, the pet monkey he adopted and then later abandoned in Germany after it was confiscated. (Perez Hilton)
