Shark Swims Terrifyingly Close to Surferthe daily dish
A veteran surfer went looking for sharks off Manhattan Beach in Southern California and found one, in an encounter that proved both thrilling and terrifying.
Mike Durand headed out on a paddle board, looking for sharks on Wednesday. Eventually, he spotted a juvenile great white and began shooting footage of it. "You can see how he's swimming around me," Durand said as he observed the shark swimming near his board. "Hopefully, he's not coming to get me."
It wasn't long before Durand realized that the shark was watching him as much as he was watching it. "Holy sh--, he's checking me out," Durand said, as the shark swam directly underneath his board. "I'm f---ing shaking like a leaf." Despite his nervousness, Durand's voice remained remarkably calm throughout the close encounter.
Luckily, the shark wasn't hungry or overly curious about Durand, and the surfer remained unharmed, although the danger of the situation was not lost on him. "It's all fun until someone loses an eye, (or leg)," he wrote on YouTube.
