FOR HOW LONG HAVE LLAMAS BEEN USED TO GUARD LIVESTOCK?
Llamas were first domesticated more than 6,000 years ago, but in the time since, they have mostly been used for their fiber, meat and leather; as pack animals; or as exotic curiosities and zoo animals. Using llamas to guard other livestock is a very new idea, emerging in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s when farmers first began to notice that flocks including llamas tended to have lower rates of loss due to predators.
