Chicken Swallows Owner's Diamond Earringthe daily dish
A British woman whose chicken ate her diamond earring is going to have to wait until the bird dies before she can retrieve the jewelry. According to the Daily Telegraph U.K., Claire Lennon's pet chicken ate her earring while sitting on her shoulder, but surgery to retrieve it could kill the animal.

Sarah, who is a male chicken, went to the veterinarian after eating the diamond earring. The vet gave him laxatives with the hope that he would pass the bauble, but when that didn't work, it seemed definite that the earring was stuck in the chicken's stomach.
"The vet said he could operate to recover the earring, but that might kill Sarah, which would devastate our six-year-old daughter Mia, who dotes on the chicken," Lennon said.
Unwilling to risk the family pet's death in order to retrieve a piece of jewelry, Lennon is choosing to wait for Sarah to die until she gets the nearly $500 diamond earring back. But if Sarah lives a full life, that could be a while.
"They live to a ripe old age," Lennon said. "We are probably looking at another eight years before I get my earring back."
Until then, Sarah is probably one of the most valuable chickens in the world.
