Solider Reunites With Dog in Pennsylvania After Year-Long Deployment

Reunited and it feels so good ... and furry. According to WGAL, Staff Sergeant Greg Walk finally saw his loyal Husky, Shadow, after a year of military service.

Walk has spent the past year serving in Afghanistan. Throughout his time there, the Staff Sergeant often thought about Shadow and their forthcoming reunion to power through difficult days. Now that joyous moment has finally come. Even though the pair were apart, neither have forgotten their loving friendship. The enthusiastic Husky instantly remembered his owner and greeted him with kisses, hugs and lots of love.

Shadow has spent the year with a Pennsylvania family. As a single man, Walk had to find a new home for his dog while he was deployed. Thankfully, Canine Corps stepped in to help. This group sets up soldiers and their pets with families that are willing to take care of the animals free of charge while their owners are overseas. Shadow was treated to a loving family that had a service record of their own, so they knew just how to handle the dog's separation anxiety.

Now, Walk and Shadow are together again and on their way home. While the pup was sorry to say goodbye to his foster family, he is happy to be back with the man who has been watching over him since he was only 5 weeks old.

I don't understand why people are amazed that animals are smart or remember things . we are the stupid ones .... limiting and judging things by our standards - every living thing has it's abilities in THEIR ways. you know - fish and trees .....

This makes me happy on so many levels. The reunion, the love between the two, but especially that he didn't discard his responsibilities to his pup but was helped to find a great foster home until he game back! THANK ALL OF YOU!!!!

My childhood dog recognized my father after an 11 year absence. She knew EXACTLY who Daddy was, and I couldn't believe it. Didn't think a dog's memory could be that in-tact!
