Dead Shark Found in NYC Subway Car

Late-night commuters on a New York City subway car were shocked by a bleak "Shark Week" sight. According to Gothamist, a small, dead shark was discovered on a Queens-bound N train late yesterday evening.

Dead Shark Found in NYC Subway

The shark was discovered by a female tipster, "Mary M.," who boarded the train at the 34th Street stop in Manhattan.

"I board a car that's not terribly full and as soon as I enter, a stench hits my nose. It's not the typical urine/trash smell, it's ... fishy? I look down to the end of the car to see a dead shark on the floor. I think I stood there for a good minute just staring, thinking 'Is this for real?! Oh come ON, NYC!' One of my fellow passengers remarked 'I've been riding the subway for 15 years, and this is the weirdest thing I've seen. And I've seen EVERYTHING,'" Mary M. told Gothamist via email.

Eventually, everyone in the car was asked to move to a different part of the train while MTA employees handled the situation.

Authorities have no leads as to who left the shark in the subway car, but they do have an idea of how the animal got there. There have been several sightings of people selling live sand sharks on the subway train coming from Coney Island. Officials think this shark could be one of those.

A marine animal handler removed the shark from the train. The MTA hopes that passengers will come forward with tips about the shark's mysterious appearance.

This is horrific abuse of innocent creatures, and anybody who finds it funny is truly sick. That photo is heart-rending. Poor, adorable shark. This is why I am a strict vegetarian, careful about anything that I purchase, and especially careful about whom I allow to speak to me. I only want to know people who would be horrified at this insane cruelty.

Anybody who sees any humor in the murder of an innocent creature is really sick and not at all anybody that I would like to know. I really dislike the flippant tone that I see in these comments. My heart breaks for that adorable shark.
