When you go on a safari, you expect to see wild animals in their natural habitats. Perhaps you hope to see some action, too, but these tourists got more than they bargained for. At Kruger National Park in South Africa, a quick-thinking impala being chased by two cheetahs jumped into an SUV for safety, escaping almost certain death, according to the Daily Mail U.K.

VIRAL: Clever Antelope Jumps Into Tourist's Car to Escape Hungry Cheetahs

The cheetahs chased a herd of impala between cars on a tourist road, but one of the antelopes became separated from the rest of the group, and doubled back through a wall of bushes toward traffic. With no other refuge open to it, the impala leapt right into an SUV through its window.

"We started freaking out, going crazy," said Samantha Pittendrigh, 20, who was filming the incident from a vehicle behind the SUV. "We couldn't believe it - we were absolutely dumbstruck."

"We heard a little girl screaming in the car," Pittendrigh added. "The boy sitting outside the car filming looked a lot younger, so it must have been a family."

After a few moments, one of the passengers in the SUV opened a door, and the impala exited the vehicle and walked to the other side of the road. The cheetahs, merely a few feet away, and apparently as dumbstruck as Pittendrigh by what they all saw, seemed to understand that they were outmatched this time and didn't continue the chase.

The cheetahs did not go hungry, however. According to Pittendrigh, one of them managed to take down another impala a few dozen feet down the road. Pitendrigh was happy the cheetahs got ther meal. "There are so many impala, it is not like they will miss one of them," she said.

Any time an animal is killed it is sad. I know that is the circle of life but I love animals. Pitendrigh. Guess that is why I am a vegan

As far as I know there are no warning signs or stop arms in the jungle for stampeding animals.
