It can be hard to find fun things to do where your dog is welcome, but we're here to help. Here are 15 dog-friendly events happening across America this summer.
Wag Hotels Summer Camp for Dogs
When: July 15 through Aug. 16
Where: San Francisco and Sacramento, Calif.
Wag Hotels run an annual camp for dogs in the name of summer fun. The camp runs for five weeks, with daily events organized under a different theme each week, like “Life’s a Beach,” “Summer Splash” and “Sports Camp.” With 25 days full of activity, your furry one will be wiped out (in a good way) by the end of the summer and will be ready to go back to obedience school.

Hog Days of Summer

Where: Brooklyn and Queens, N.Y.
The Arrogant Swine presents authentic North Carolina whole-hog barbecue in New York City, and throughout the season, they offer Hog Days of Summer events with barbecue, craft beer and live music. The best part? “Feel free to bring your dog. We got lots of bones.” Just be prepared to sign a pet feeding waiver.
Street Food Cinema
When: All summer long
Where: Los Angeles, Calif.
Street Food Cinema is a great outdoor event in LA. Each week for the entire summer, you can enjoy a picnic while you enjoy a movie, plus live music and food trucks. There are a lot of good outdoor film events in LA, but they don’t all let you bring your dog along for the fun. This one does, and that alone makes it worth your hard-earned cash.
Dog Days of Summer - Hyatt Regency Cambridge
When: Every Thursday through August
Where: Cambridge, Mass. (Boston)
Boston residents who are looking for a doggy hangout spot that’s a little more upscale than the local dog park would do well to check out the Dog Days of Summer program at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Cambridge. Every Thursday evening, the hotel hosts a casual dog-socializing event where owners can enjoy cocktails and treats while they play with their pets. Plus, they validate. What more could you want?
Sounds of Summer - Bring Your Dog Night
When: July 17, 2013
Where: Milwaukee, Wisc.
The Sounds of Summer is a summer concert series in Milwaukee that includes events every third Thursday throughout the season. Each night has a different theme, and on July 17, attendees are encouraged to bring their dogs along for the fun. While you’re enjoying the bands, you can also enter your buddy in the dog show, and see if he or she can win a prize.
PAWS Chicago Beach Party
When: July 18, 2013
Where: Chicago, Ill.
If you are of means and can afford a ticket to this upscale canine event, you will be supporting a great cause, as all proceeds from the party help Chicago’s homeless dog populations. At the event itself, your dog will get to lounge on the beach with you while you enjoy live music, a buffet and an open bar. There are different levels of sponsorship for ticket buyers, plus raffles and auctions.

Amazing Pet Expos travels around the country all year long, and will be in many cities this summer, including Nashville, Milwaukee, Chicago, Austin, Denver and Boston. Besides all the shopping you can do, there will be agility courses, talent shows, costume contests, adoption events and more. And you’ll get a chance to see Shorty Rossi from Animal Planet’s “Pit Boss.”
Cardiff Dog Days of Summer
When: Aug. 10, 2013
Where: Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif. (San Diego)
Dog Days of Summer is the largest dog event in the San Diego area, with 10,000 expected to attend this year. Enjoy over 200 vendors, contests, live music, food, an agility course, a doggie photo booth, doggie crafts, a large silent auction and more.
Dog Days Peach Festival
When: Aug. 10-11, 2013
Where: Bluemont, Va. (Washington, D.C.)
Don’t wait for fall to go apple picking when you can go peach picking in the summer. Head out to Great Country Farms, about an hour outside of D.C., and bring your dog along for the fun in August. The first 100 dogs to arrive will receive a free doggy bag full of goodies.
Woof Stock '13
When: Aug. 11, 2013
Where: Orlando, Fla.
The main event at Woof Stock is an all-day dog washing for charity. But do you think that’s all they have to offer? Don’t be absurd. There’s also vendors, food trucks, a rowing competition, a bounce house, live music and more. And all proceeds from the event go to the SPCA of Central Florida.
Corgi Walk in the Pearl
When: Aug. 17, 2013
Where: Portland, Ore.
"The Pearl" is the hipstery Pearl district in Portland, Ore. Walking is a form of casual exercise in which you engage for fun and health. And Corgis are a breed of adorable dog with an enormous and devoted fan base. You can combine all three on Aug. 17 to support the DoveLewis animal hospital and the Columbia River Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club Corgi Rescue.
Woof Fest - A Musical Experience for Dog Lovers
When: Aug. 24-25
Where: Philadelphia, Pa., and Columbia, Md.
American composer/conductor Steven Mercurio has written music called “A Grateful Tail” specifically with dogs in mind. That means that not only is your dog welcome at this concert event, your pup is its target audience. The piece features an orchestra that includes barking dogs, accompanied by actor F. Murray Abraham reading the words of the great Eugene O’Neill. This is truly going to be a unique event.
Pooches in the Pool
When: Sept. 3, 2013
Where: Indianapolis, Ind.
The Jordan YMCA in Indianapolis just opened a beautiful, newly rebuilt, 50-meter outdoor pool, and they want everyone to enjoy it, including dogs! That’s why the pool include easy in-and-out access for canines, plus a designated splash pad area. Go test out the pool for yourself on Sept. 3, and bring Fido along. You’ll have to pay five bucks, but he gets in free.

Bark in the Park

At its core, Bark in the Park is like a super-duper dog park where scores of dog lovers congregate to socialize their dogs and themselves.
