Aggressive Mosquitoes Invade US

Many of us agree that mosquitoes are among the worst things in the world, but they're about to get even worse. Asian tiger mosquitoes are invading New Jersey, and they're more active and aggressive than the mosquitoes you're used to, according to the Daily Mail U.K.

We know what to expect from everyday mosquitoes. Although they are annoying, even infuriating, they generally wait until sunset to come out and bite you up. That's not the case with Asian tiger mosquitoes. These jerks stay hungry all day, and will descend upon you to drink your blood at any hour.

Pete Rendine, the chief inspector for the Bergen County Public Works Department's mosquito-control division, said the Asian tiger mosquitoes "are the worst, nuisance-wise, because they are adapting to our climate. They are here to stay."

But the mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance. They can carry West Nile virus, and because they are even more aggressive than typical mosquitoes, they represent a real health concern.

Officials stress that it is up to homeowners to help control mosquito populations by keeping their homes and property clean, particularly of standing water, such as in kiddie pools, clogged gutters, ornamental ponds, or other similar mosquito breeding grounds.

ONCE AGAIN, why can't science step in, genetically modify the females to produce sterile offspring and turn a few trillion of them loose in the affected areas? Stop complaining about it and get on with a solution.
