Fisherman Catches Rare Blue Lobster

the daily dish More on PawNation: Awesome, Fish and Marine, Lobsters, Weird
When lobster fisherman Sheldon Trenholm of South River, Nova Scotia, Canada, hauled in one of his lobster traps last week, he saw what he said looked like a blue flashlight going on and off. It turned out to be a rare blue lobster in the trap, among the eight or so other, normally colored, brown and greenish-brown lobsters, reports the Inquisitr.

According to the University of Maine's Lobster Institute, blue coloration in lobster shells is the result of a rare genetic defect that causes the lobster to produce more of a certain protein. Catching a blue lobster like the one Trenholm caught is very rare - a one-in-two-million chance. Even more rare than blue lobsters are naturally red lobsters. Usually, they turn red only after cooking.

But some other lucky lobsterman may have a chance to haul in the very same lobster Trenholm did. Despite its unique coloring, the lobster wasn't big enough to keep for any commercial purpose, so after posing for a few photos and showing off his prize for a little while, Trenholm threw the unusual creature back into the sea.

Okay people. The lobsterman didn't decide to save it, and he didn't release it out of the kindness of his heart. He let it go because it wasn't big enough to keep.

OK he let it go but, I bet Sea World would have bought it for a little color to one of their tank displays.......nice attraction.

Finally, a kind hearted fisherman who chose to give the rare lobster a chance to live. May God reward him in other ways.

Glad the fisherman decided to save it. Very unusual and great that we could all have a view before released.
