Wesa, a 2-week-old California condor chick, is the first of the season to hatch at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Wesa is doing great, is a healthy weight, and is planned to be released into the wild one day. The little chick is a part of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park's very successful condor recovery program that began in the early 1980s.

At the Houston Zoo in Texas, Max is the official elephant barn dog. When he was 3 months old, he was spotted along the side of the road by one of the Houston Zoo's keepers. The elephant team at the zoo was looking for a barn dog, and Max was the perfect fit. Max has been at the zoo for four years now, and has a great relationship with all the other animals.

BONGO BREEDING
In Australia's Taronga Zoo, two eastern bongos are seen "courting." They are male and female, and are often spotted while mating. It would be wonderful if another calf came along in the near future, as there are estimated to be fewer than 75 eastern bongos remaining in the wild.
