VIN DIESEL POSES WITH A LEOPARD
Even at age 45, actor Vin Diesel is keeping his physique in tip-top shape. That’s probably why he was hired to be on the cover of an upcoming summer issue of Prestige magazine. It doesn’t necessarily explain why he posed with a live leopard, but who needs an explanation for that? It’s awesome. Diesel claimed it was “one of the craziest photo shoots I have ever done.” (Daily Mail U.K.) -

NEWBORN GIRAFFE NAMED AFTER YAO MING
Basketball superstar Yao Ming may be retired, but to the city of Houston where he played his entire NBA career with the Rockets, he’s still a hero. The latest honor bestowed on Ming? The Houston Zoo has named their newborn baby giraffe after the athlete. Yao (the man, not the giraffe) has worked in the past with the conservation organization WildAid, which means he’s more than earned this tribute both on and off the court. (ZooBorns) -
NENE LEAKES CALLS POLICE TO SAVE HER DOG
NeNe Leakes of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” desperately needed some professional assistance last week to rescue her dog from danger. The TV personality accidentally locked both her keys and her Yorkie in her car. Luckily, Leakes was able to flag down a Beverly Hills cop and the police officer got the dog out of the vehicle safely. NOEL GALLAGHER’S CAT OUT-ROCKS JUSTIN BIEBER, ACCORDING TO NOEL GALLAGHER
Justin Bieber upset many of his U.K. fans last week when he showed up two hours late for a big concert. One of the Brits who wasn’t too impressed with Bieber’s excessive tardiness was ex-Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher. Gallagher said that compared to Bieber, “My cat sounds more rock-and-roll that that.” To be fair, Gallagher wasn’t commenting on Bieber’s music, which he claims never to have heard. Rather, the songwriter was taking a shot at Bieber’s unprofessionalism. (NME) -
“THE WALKING DEAD” CREATOR EXPLAINS LACK OF ZOMBIE ANIMALS
“The Walking Dead” is a hugely popular TV show, because audiences can’t get enough of watching a world where most humans have been turned into mindless zombies who craze human flesh (or reading about it, in the case of the original comic book). But many fans have a burning question: Why are there no zombie animals in the world of “The Walking Dead”? Creator Robert Kirkman finally explained to Conan last week. Says Kirkman, “The artist that draws the comic book, Charlie Adlard, loves drawing people, loves drawing zombies ... does not enjoy drawing animals so much.” Asked and answered! (AOL On) -
SALMA HAYEK’S DAUGHTER IS A CRUSADER FOR CHIMPS
Actress Salma Hayek’s precocious 5-year-old daughter Valentina is on a mission to save the chimpanzees. The young conservationist was inspired to animal activism after meeting no less than world-famous primatologist Jane Goodall. Says Hayek, “She doesn’t want me giving anything away because it’s like, ‘No, they should pay and then with the money we can save another chimpanzee.’” Who can argue with that? (Ecorazzi) -

PORTIA DE ROSSI GETS EQUESTRIAN
Portia De Rossi enjoyed a bit of free time in the saddle last week, going for a horseback ride at an equestrian center in Los Angeles. That De Rossi should be an animal lover is no big surprise given that she is married to Ellen DeGeneres, who is very well known for her love of animals. In fact, De Rossi’s horse was an anniversary present from DeGeneres. How DeGenerous! (Daily Mail U.K.)
