Cleaning and maintaining the litter box is one of the most unpleasant parts of cat ownership, and many cat owners fantasize about their pets learning to use a flushing toilet like civilized humans. For those people, there is a contraption that may mean their fantastic dream could become reality. The LitterKwitter is a device designed to help train cats to use the toilet, reports the Daily Mail U.K.

Australian Jo Lapidge, 48, first conceived of her invention after watching the movie "Meet the Fockers," which depicts a cat who uses toilets instead of a litter box. Lapidge created early versions of the device out of plant pots and used it to train her own cat, Doogal. Fourteen more prototypes followed before the final design for the LitterKwitter was complete.

The LitterKwitter is a set of different sized plastic seats, starting with a litter tray on the floor near the toilet. The cat progresses through the different-sized seats until it is able to use the toilet by itself.

"Cats bury their waste to hide the smell, which in the wild can attract predators," says Lapidge. "A toilet-trained cat whose waste disappears into the water of the toilet bowl would experience the same psychological satisfaction as this."

Lapidge says almost any cat can retrain its potty habits using her product. "
The LitterKwitter works best with kittens as they have fewer bad habits to unlearn, but basically any healthy cat that can use a litter tray can be trained to use the toilet." Your dreams have come true.
