LET'S TALK ABOUT TAKINS

In Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo, two baby Sichuan Takins were recently born. Both are males, and have been named Xing Gu and Mengyao. Too cute!

POLAR BEAR PLAY TIME

An 11-year-old polar bear named Inukshuk plays in the water at the Toronto Zoo. Who wants to dive in and play?

GOOSE NEWBIE

Toolka, a newborn Cape Barren goose, has been welcomed at the Staten Island Zoo in New York. Toolka is one of the rarest species of geese in the world.

SNACK ATTACK

A sea lion is fed by keeper Rebecca Miller at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. Hope he enjoyed his yummy snack!

BEAUTIFUL BIG CATS

Gorgeous jaguars are pictured in an enclosure at Petro Velho Farm in Corumba de Goias, near Brazil. The jaguars are a part of the non-governmental organization NEX, which is aimed at preserving and defending the life of endangered Brazilian wild cats.

SWEET AND SHELTERED

An adorable stray cat found some shelter inside a hay-filled igloo in Kansas City, Mo., during heavy snowfall in the metro area. 

MAMA'S LITTLE BOY

A newborn gorilla baby is held by mother Changa-Maidi at the zoo in Muenster, Germany. The youngster was born four weeks ago. Precious!

PARTY ANIMALS

Richard Belzer, singer Melanie Fiona and her dog Bebe attend the 2013 Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation awards dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in NYC. Looks like a good time to us!

CONDOR EGG-STRAVAGANZA

At the Oregon Zoo, three California condor eggs from the 2013 breeding season have been laid at the Oregon Zoo's Jonsson Center for Wildlife Conservation over the past week. Also, the first Oregon Zoo-hatched condor set to be released into the wild has paired with a wild-fledged female in California's Pinnacles National park. The pair are now taking turns sitting on her egg. So adorable!

PAINTING PORCUPINE

At the Houston Zoo in Texas, a porcupine paints for enrichment. You can paint us a masterpiece anytime, Mr. Porcupine!

DIABETES DETECTORS

Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, holds a black Lab puppy named Charlie. Camilla was visiting medical detection dogs in Great Horwood, England. The dogs are trained to assist people who have life-threatening health conditions such as Type 1 diabetes. The dogs smell the hospital samples in their training, which helps with early diagnosis.

OTTERLY BEAUTIFUL

At the Oregon Zoo, Tilly the river otter has given birth to a male pup. The newcomer is the first North American river otter to be born at the Oregon Zoo. Congrats, mama!

SIFAKA SWEETNESS

A rare baby sifaka recently was welcomed to the Houston Zoo. The sifaka is an endangered animal in the lemur family, so it's awesome there's a new baby on board.

WALK ON

A one-week-old baby elephant walks with its French mother, Agele, at the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden during its first presentation for the press. The little newborn will be shown to the public on Monday. 

GIRAFFE GREATNESS

A 2-month-old giraffe spends some time out and about with the rest of the herd at Bioparc Valencia in Spain.

SLAM SEA DUNK

Eddie, a sea otter who struggles with arthritis, has been taught to dunk at the Oregon Zoo, thanks to keeper Jenny Degroot's creative physical therapy program. Good going, Eddie!

KOALA HOUSEWIVES OF SYDNEY

At the Blackpool Zoo in England, four precious baby goats have just arrived to the Children's Farm. How cute are they?

FIT KITS

At the Taronga Zoo in Australia, three fennec fox kits had their eighth-week health check. Their sex was undetermined until now. There are two girls and one boy. The veterinarian said the little ones are all fit, healthy and about halfway to an adult weight. 

CAT CURIOSITY

DAPPER AND DRAPED

At the Darwineum Zoo Rostock in northeastern Germany, Miri the orangutan finds amusement in playing with some drapery. 

BECOMING A MAN-EPHANT

In Arizona at the Reid Park Zoo, Sundzu, a 2-year-old African elephant, is beginning to grow his tusks. Awesome!

SWEET SIBERIANS

Two Siberian tigers lie on the ground after a heavy snowfall at the zoo in Nanjing, eastern China. There are no more than 20 Siberian tigers living in China, and less than 530 left in the world. It's important to do everything we can to help populate this very endangered species.

MINI MONKEY

At a temporary shelter in Colombia, a 15-day-old night monkey sits in a veterinarian's hand, looking picture-ready. The shelter receives between 3,000 and 3,500 wild animals every year, and spends approximately $560,000 for their care and recovery. Fortunately, around 70 percent of the rescued animals are reintroduced to their natural habitats, and 30 percent are sent to zoos around the country.

GOOD MORNING

A beautiful rooster crows while sitting in a tree in Key West, Fla. While some find the large number of chickens to be an annoyance, others feel they're part of Key West's charm. 

ALWAYS IN SIGHT

At the Perth Zoo in Australia, meerkats that were born on Christmas Day have grown quite a bit and are now very active in their exhibit. They love to explore under the very watchful eyes of their older siblings, parents and uncles. Too cute!

HAY IS FOR HORSES

In Australia at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo, two Przewalski's horses look gorgeous as ever grazing in the grass.

Jarrah, a 6-month-old Quokka joey, is being hand raised by keeper Kristal at the Taronga Zoo in Australia. Jarrah is very fond of his keeper and is currently going everywhere with Kristal for the next few months! Precious.
