HOLD ON TIGHT

Gorilla mother Jamani and her little baby, Bomassa, roam around the Forest Glade exhibit at the North Carolina Zoo. Later in the year, the zoo will be expecting its third successful gorilla birth in less than a year. Woohoo!

WHO ARE YOU CALLING BOAR-ING?

At the wildlife park in Stuttgart, Germany, wild boars take some time to relax in the pretty snow.

At the Belfast Zoo in Northern Ireland, elephants Yhetto, Dhunja and Jenny enjoy some delicious pancakes. Hey, guys, may we have some?

PAINT ME PRETTY

At the Houston Zoo in Texas, a sea lion paints a picture using special brushes made by the staff that the animals can hold in their mouths. This activity is very enriching for the sea lions and their keepers. Pictured is Cali, creating a beautiful masterpiece.

Celebrities Khloe Evans and Tom Pearce are seen playing with penguins at the ZSL London Zoo on Valentine's Day. 

KILLER BABY

Members of SeaWorld's zoological team watch as a baby killer whale takes a breath at SeaWorld's Shamu Stadium in California. The 37-year-old mother named Kasatka gave birth to the calf this morning at 6:33 a.m. The baby is estimated to weigh between 300 and 350 pounds. 

STORK SITTER

In Straubing, Germany, a stork is pictured sitting very peacefully on his snowy nest. 

DOGGIE SAINT

Arana Rosa Zetino plays with stray dogs at her home in Guatemala City. She rescues dogs that have been mistreated and abandoned from the street, and provides them with medical care and food.

Aardvarks Tatsu and Himba are pictured curled up together in a perfect heart shape at the Chester Zoo in England. Just in time for Valentine's Day!

MOMMY AND ME

Female tapir Laila has given birth to a healthy baby boy at Zoo Leipzig in Germany. The little one weighs just over 18 pounds and is doing great. Congratulations, mama!

LOWLAND LOVIN'

The western lowland gorilla breeding group at the Taronga Zoo in Australia is part of global zoo efforts to protect the very critically endangered species. The group of gorillas have been given some special Valentine's Day treats to mark the success of the program.

OH GEE, A VALENTINE FOR ME?

Valentine's Day cards are handed to African penguins at the California Academy of Sciences by biologist Crystal Crimbchin. The colony of African penguins received the red, heart-shaped valentines with handwritten notes from the academy visitors.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE

As a gesture of love from their keepers, a jaguar family has received Valentine's Day gifts in the form of heart-shaped bloodsicles. Nindiri, a 5-year-old jaguar, licked her savory treat made of frozen beef blood, and sure enjoyed it. Yum!

EGGS FOR DAYS

Olive Ridley turtles begin their return to the sea after laying eggs near the mouth of the Rushikulya river in the Ganjam district, south west of Bhubaneshwar. Thousands of sea turtles started to come ashore over the last two days to lay their eggs on the beach, one of the three big nesting sites in the Indian coastal state of Orissa.

SWEET RHINO LOVE

Love is in the air at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Australia! Rhinos Dora and Amala have been getting to know each other, after having their first date not too long ago. Hopefully, they will continue to build a strong relationship and potentially breed in the near future.

Reality star Mayte Garcia hosts a pet adoption in conjunction with her foundation, Mayte's Rescue, at the Beverly Hills Mutt Club in Beverly Hills, Calif.

At Hawaii's Honolulu Zoo, 6-week-old lion cubs have grown tremendously and now weigh about 14 pounds. So adorbs!

The smallest fox in the world, the fennec fox, pops a pose at the Cincinnati Zoo in Ohio. Fennec foxes have very large ears, reaching lengths up to 6 inches, making their hearing impeccable. Their big ears also act as radiators, allowing their bodies to regulate temperatures in the hot desert. 

LEEK LOVIN'

A proud chimpanzee snacks on leek at the Tokyo Yama Zoo in Japan. The zoo gave garlic and Welsh onions to the chimps to help them stay healthy in the winter and avoid catching colds. 

POLLY, BE MINE?

In Syria, a parrot holds a red rose at a flower shop displaying Valentine's Day arrangements.

THREE MUSKETEERS

Koalas Bradley, Simba and Beejay are carried by animal care staff for Dreamworld Australia as they prepare for a flight from Queensland, Australia, to the U.S. They will be taken to the San Diego Zoo's colony of koalas in hopes that they will increase the genetic diversity of koala breeding in the United States. 

BEARS FROM THE BRONX

Two grizzly bears are seen playing in the snow at New York City's Bronx Zoo after a weekend of heavy snowfall in the Northeast.

SQUASH SNACKING

At the Houston Zoo in Texas, an Anegada Island iguana at the Reptile House eats out of a delicious squash bowl. There are lots of herbs and other yummy vegetables grown by the Horticulture Department for the animals, which helps with their enrichment.

MANATEE TLC

The Tampa Lowry Park Zoo's newest manatee patient is a 220-pound orphan who suffers from cold stress syndrome. Here, she is seen receiving some TLC with an antiseptic scrub to help prevent topical infections and also to treat lesions caused by prolonged exposure to cold water. We wish you the best, pretty manatee!

CARRY ME AWAY

In Colombia at the Cali Zoo, a lioness carries one of three cubs she gave birth to in captivity 20 days ago. Absolutely adorable!

READY FOR MY CLOSE-UP

At the Chester Zoo in the U.K., a new baby Sumatran orangutan named Tripa looks ridiculously adorable in this gorgeous close-up. 

SWEET SLOTH SLEEPS

A precious baby sloth hangs out with its mother at the Belfast Zoo in Northern Ireland. These wonderful species sleep anywhere from 15 to 20 hours every day. Sounds like the life to us!

FAMILY MEANS FOREVER

Gorilla baby Ebo continues to grow and become stronger every day at the beautiful Bioparc Valencia in Spain. Today, he is 15 weeks old. Too cute!

BIGGER AND BETTER

At the Taronga Zoo in Australia, Beau the echidna was once very frail and small. Now, he has grown into a beautiful example of an echidna! He has gained some weight and is all covered in spikes. Very cool!

JUST A LITTLE BIT OF MOTIVATION

A mother helps her elephant calf stand on its feet at the Prague Zoo in the Czech Republic. This is the first elephant calf born at the zoo in more than 80 years. 

PROSTHETICALLY PRETTY

Yu, a 25-year-old female loggerhead turtle, swims with ease after receiving her 27th pair of artificial front legs in Kobe, Tokyo, at the Suma Aqualife Park. 

YOU'RE BANGIN!

In Scotland, a 7-year-old girl named Emily prepares a cow for a show as farmers come together for the 122nd Highland Cattle Society spring sale at the Oban Livestock center. She is pictured trimming the cow's bangs to perfection. 

BE MINE, SWEET SHARK?

A diver at the Sunshine Aquarium in Tokyo feeds red, heart-shaped squid meat to a shark during a feeding show in preparation for Valentine's Day. 

BABY'S DAY OUT

In Australia at the Mogo Zoo, a pretty giraffe baby stepped out into the Savannah for the very first time, under the watchful eyes of her mother and father. She had fun stretching her legs and getting up close with the ostrich.

CHIMP GRIN

At the National Zoo in Malaysia, a 4-month-old chimpanzee is seen rustling around in the shrubs, making a cute face. The youngster was born in November 2012. How cute is this little one?

OTTER BE MINE?

Yutan the Alaskan sea otter swims around as he holds a heart-shaped piece of ice given to him by his keeper at the Hakkeijima Sea Paradise amusement park in Yokohama near Tokyo, Japan. 

SNOW BEAR

A 12-year-old female polar bear has some fun playing in 18 tons of fresh snow in the exhibit at the San Diego Zoo. All of the beautiful snow was made possible by donors who contributed funds to the zoo's animal care wish list.

At the Taronga Zoo in Australia, a lovely pygmy hippo refreshes itself by taking a nice drink. 

I'VE GOT YOU

A mother giraffe nurses her 1-month-old baby at Tokyo's Tama Zoo on Feb. 9. The little girl was born on Jan. 4, and can be seen by the public on nice, sunny days. 

BEAUTIF-OWL

A snowy owl is pictured at the Bronx Zoo in New York after an intense snow storm on Feb. 9 in the Bronx borough of NYC. So beautiful!

THIS IS MY YEAR

A stunning python is pictured in a snake display to help celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year at the National Zoo in Malaysia. It is, after all, the Year of the Snake.
