Black dogs often have a harder time getting adopted, compared to dogs with other coat colors. But we don't need to tell you that fur color does not define the dog. We have gathered 50 adorable and adoptable black dogs from across the nation, and each is as sweet as can be and in need of a home. If you're interested in adopting a dog, consider adopting one of these.

We adopted a young kitty 2 weeks ago very beautiful coat tiger striped, healthy, and friendly for Elmbrook HS in Elm grove, WI. She was classified "stray" but clearly seems like was somebodys pet. She loves people. Our HS spayed her, clipped her nails, and gave her all her shots and dewormed her before putting her up for adoption. IDK how much that would cost, but we paid $25 for her. Also this HS displays several pets at the nearby PetSmart store so you can see adoptable pets at the pet "store". The only problem we have is we cant get her to stop sleeping on my daughters pillow.
April 24 2013 at 12:48 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyGot all but one of my cats from shelters or they were abandoned on the streets, some of the greatest friends anyone could have in their life.
April 24 2013 at 12:18 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWe have rescued racers, greyhounds, and I have always adopted the large black males over the years. For whatever reason, black male dogs seem more difficult to place. The public does not know what they are missing! The gentlest soul I have ever know, human or animal was a 90 lb black male named Vinnie Ray. He passed in my arms at 14 and I miss him. There have been others dogs since Vinnie Ray and his sweetness paved their way!
April 24 2013 at 5:16 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI've read its also because when you post their picture yoy cannot see their features clearly. but in general the perception w larger black breeds is that they're more aggressive. I have a black lab n he's the sweetest but when he's protective all u see are his teeth.
April 23 2013 at 8:56 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI've heard that people are uneasy with black dogs because they think they're more aggressive. I've been with greyhound rescue for years, and people tend to think the black ones are dobermans, and are afraid of them. It's more of an emotional feeling than a rational thought.
February 20 2013 at 4:19 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHow strange, I have had 3 black dogs , sadly they have passed away from old age but all of them were as sweet as they could be!! I am now considering getting another black shepherd. Who knew there would be discrimination in dogs!!
February 20 2013 at 2:41 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWHY? Is there a scientific reason? Please don't tell me it is a racial thing. I think even KKK members might own black dogs.
February 20 2013 at 2:32 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyQuick someone call Al "Shar pei"ton and Rev Jesse "Jack-Russel"son to fight this obvious discrimination!!!
February 20 2013 at 1:41 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThat makes no sense at all! My dog Michael was black and a rescue and he lived to be 17 years old. He was a great dog and my best friend and I miss him.
February 20 2013 at 12:32 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI don't understand why black dogs are having a difficult time being adopted. Aren't Labrador Retrievers the most popular dog in the US and Dachshunds are very popular also. Black and tan Dachshunds are the first adopted out. I have been involved in Dachshund rescue for over 20 years! Believe me I know!
