We have watched a number of inspiring disabled pets make big strides and enjoy full and furry lives, and Caffrey the cat is a great example of making the best of it. According to the Daily Mail U.K., this two-legged kitty has not let losing limbs slow him down, even though both his remaining legs are on the same side of his body.
-
The mobile meower has developed his own way of getting around, chasing birds and playing with toys. In Caffrey's mind, two legs work just as well as four.
-
Caffrey was not born with this disability. For three years, the cat got around on the usual four paws. Sadly, the Persian was struck by a car that resulted in a costly surgery and the loss of one of his legs. But Caffrey was still alive, so he stayed optimistic and learned to live minus one leg.
-
Caffrey went through life as a content tripod for the next ten years until one day a growth was discovered on one of his paws that was also injured in the car accident. The discovery left Caffrey and his owner with what seemed like two options: chemotherapy or putting Caffrey to rest.
-
Sue Greaves, Caffrey's owner, chose neither. Instead she decided to do what she thought would be the easiest and least painful route for her adaptable cat: lose another leg. Greaves tried to convince her vet to do the operation, confident that Caffrey would adjust to the change just like before, but the doctor was skeptical.
-
The vet consulted several other professionals about the unusual surgery, and all of them said the operation would most likely leave Caffrey unable to move because he would only have legs on one side of his body. But the doctor and Greaves decided to go ahead anyway, hoping and praying that this pussycat would prove the others wrong.
-
Caffrey came through in a big way. The surgery was a success. Vets believed it would take the feline weeks to recover, but Caffrey was already gaining balance and trying his new walk out days after the surgery.
-
A team of dedicated fans and animal lovers are part of Caffrey's quick recovery. The cat's cheering section included his 8-year-old next door neighbor Ashleigh Tyler, who came by frequently to help nurse Caffrey back to health.

Now Caffrey is fully healed and getting around with a literal skip in his step.
"Everyone who sees him is astonished at what he can do," Mrs Greaves said to the Daily Mail. "He doesn't seem bothered at all by having only two legs."

Adaptability is a wonderful thing - Caffrey just goes on with life, because... why not? good for him and for the faith and trust of his loving pet parent!

February 14 2013 at 7:11 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI hate to be the poop in the punchbowl, but I'm not buying this picture. The cat's center of gravity is far to the right (our view) and there is no possible way for this cat to remain upright as seen in this picture. It doesn't matter how strong the remaining two legs are or how wonderful the cat's balance nay be.....you cannot overcome the laws of physics.

February 21 2013 at 8:18 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIt'd only be better if we could say she has "two left feet".
Time to re-read the "Laws of Physics"!
Cat's do have a wonderful sense of balance and this kitty already was walking on 3 legs so this is wonderful...

February 14 2013 at 2:41 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyCats are amazing! I know that they say dogs have an extra leg ( back leg) because all of there strength is in the front, but I never have seen an animal do this one! I think it's wonderful that her owner loved her enough to stick it out with her! :)
February 13 2013 at 2:21 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy neighbor's dog lost a leg to cancer and is still able to run with abandon and play with gusto. Animals are very good at adapting to whatever life throws at them.
