Actor James Cromwell Arrested for Protesting Alleged Cat Abuse

According to "Today," Oscar-nominated actor and passionate animal advocate James Cromwell was arrested Thursday after protesting alleged animal abuse by the University of Wisconsin at one of their Board of Regents meeting.
UW Madison Police lieutenant Mark Silbernagael said the following about the incident: "This morning there was a Board of Regents meeting held on campus in one of our academic buildings. During the course of that meeting, two people interrupted that meeting, one being James Cromwell." The other man was a staff member of PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
PETA posted the video of the protest on YouTube. In the video, University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents sat shocked in silence as Cromwell and another man broke in during the meeting. The two protesters held signs challenging them over their experiments on cats. On one of the signs was an image of a cat with a metal implement attached to its head. It was said that the cat was later killed and decapitated.
Cromwell can be heard saying the following in the video: "Regents are looking the other way while UW Medicine lies to the public about abusing cats and squandering taxpayers' money on cruel and wasteful experiments. As many as 30 cats a year at UW have had holes drilled in their skulls, metal poles implanted into their eyes. They are deafened, starved for days at a time and then are decapitated. This is not science! This is torture! And it is criminal!"
The director of the UW-Madison Research Animal Resource Center released a statement rejecting PETA and Cromwell's accusations. The statement read, "Today's events are just another attempt by outside activists to draw attention to a cause. They have attacked and distorted this research - which has very real benefits for people who are deaf - from every angle imaginable. Exhaustive independent investigation by the USDA, which regulates the use of animals in research, concluded that PETA's allegations are baseless."

I agree shame on the people who could stop this cruelty and refuse to admit that this type of experimentation is inexcusable and totally unnecessary. Bravo Mr. Cromwell we who know and believe this should have the courage to stand up and be heard.

I am so happy that other people think like me. I am so appalled at this awful cruelty and all the other terrible things that we 'human' being subject on animals. Hats off to James, Pam and all the other animal supporters out there :)

Yes people doing that should be subject to the same experiment they do on the animals. I thought we live in a civilized country and not in China or Vietnam where they slaughter Cats and Dogs. And in the Pilipphines where they torture the Dogs, hang them up by the neck for a few hours before they kill them to make the meat more soft, as they say .

This is horrible and must be stopped. They're saying the accusations are baseless but admit they are helping deaf people? Mixed messages sounds very suspicious to me.
