And the Puppy Bowl IX MVP Is ... Marta
the daily dish
Everyone who watches the Puppy Bowl is a winner, but for the pooch players there can only be one Most Valuable Pup. According to USA Today, the best canine contender of Puppy Bowl IX was Marta the Beagle/Schnauzer mix.
Marta quickly proved she was more than an adorable, pint-sized package of fluff. The tiny dog had no problem challenging bigger breeds on her way to the end zone. This fearlessness easily set Marta apart and earned her the coveted title of MVP.
"Marta's tiny, but she's not delicate, and she is deceptively athletic, which kind of tricked the bigger dogs," Daniel Schachner, who acted as "The Ref" on the field, told USA Today.
Marta was a recruit from AHeinz57 Pet Rescue & Transport in Iowa. As is Puppy Bowl tradition, all the puppy participants are chosen from shelters around the country and are adoptable. Not surprisingly, all of the 63 puppies who took part in the game have been snapped up by loving homes.
Aside from settling into her new home, it is unclear what Marta's plans are for the future and her career. Perhaps she can get some tips from fellow MVP Joe Flacco.

February 04 2013 at 7:41 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySince the Halftime show wasn't my cup o'tea I tuned into the puppy bowl. Glad I did. Happy to see that not only AKC breeds were represented but also some cute mixed breeds. Very entertaining with the hedgehog cheerleaders.

February 04 2013 at 5:14 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI loved watching a good part of the Puppy Bowl last night. Just watching Chestnut (a yellow lab mix) had me thinking that he might actually become a great service, guide, or therapy dog someday. He has a very calm demeanor, isn't deterred by distractions around him, and seems very gentle and intelligent. Either way, whoever gets him will be truly blessed.
