A gorgeous 2-year-old iguana attends a purification ceremony at the Ichigaya Kamegaoka-Hachimangu shrine in Tokyo. Around 500 pet owners visited the shrine to pray for the health and happiness of their animals, and to celebrate the new year.

POSSUM POSSIBILITIES

Three young possums arrive at the Taronga Wildlife Hospital in Australia. They are learning how to do "possum" things together, and are busy tearing up paper to bring into their nest box for a nice, cozy bed.

A stunning Burmese python is shown off at the 2013 Python Challenge in Davie, Fla. The contest involves harvesting the pythons in the Florida Everglades, an area to which the species of snake is not native.

In South Africa, a 2-month-old baby rhino named Ntombi is cared for at Legends Golf Estate after being brutally attacked by poachers.
