5 Ways Thieves Could Steal Your Dog

    3. Pets Left in Fenced Backyards:

Everyone loves the convenience of a doggy door, especially criminals. Homeowners who let their pet explore the fenced yard without supervision have the illusion of safety, but police departments across the country will tell you that the theft of these dogs is climbing.

In broad daylight on a single Saturday in November, Corning (California) Animal Shelter Manager Debbie Eaglebarger documented the theft of four Dobermans, four Australian shepherds and two Rottweilers. There were actually other dogs taken that same day but the first few calls were not recorded as the shelter had not yet realized that the town was in the midst of a widespread crime wave. One neighbor saw a man and a woman driving a green pick up truck lure one of the dogs out of a backyard and into their vehicle. All dogs taken that day were purebred, but that is not always the case.

We are working to bring a secure and user friendly dog lock (collar/leash) to market via Quirky.com, but need more votes! If you have time, please check it out and vote -- it would be an amazing tool to combat the rising trend of dog theft, and provide peace of mind for dog owners!.... http://www.quirky.com/ideations/464615
Thank you!

I cannot imagine how bad my life would become without my 3 Shar-pei. I would go crazy against anyone trying to hurt or steal one of my babies. I doubt someone would try anything against them though because people are usually scare to get near them.

I will never leave my dogs in the car or in the back yard,,,,never, ever, ever!!!!! I don't trust anyone. If my dogs can't go in some place with me I don't go. It's a cruel world out there and won't subject my pets to it!

I don't know what I would do if someone stole my pom I have only had him for a year and a half and it is the first dog I have ever owned and I am 50. I never saw myself as a dog lover but this dog is amazing. He even calms my autistic grandson down when he is agitated.

I wish that people would pick up after their dog. I carry a tiny bag to pick up after my dog when we go walking.

I had 3 litters of sha pei pups stolen from my home. Called the media. they found the guy 200 miles away selling them on the side of the road along with some boxer pups he had stolen also. He had sold one of mine but I got htem all back thanks to the media covering it on TV. he was prosecuted, had one year in jail and had to pay me 1000 for the pup I did not get back.
