Gruber and her partner, Alan Tsefrekas, insist that their squish-faced farm animals are actually pets, but the town's zoning board disagrees, labeling them as livestock.

Gruber believes that pigs make for the perfect pet. "I wanted to breed something that was small, but I didn't want anything that made noise, like yappy little dogs. Pigs are quiet, and they're peaceful, and they're affectionate."

Although Gruber says that she has litter box trained the pigs, several neighbors have still complained about her animals and the condition of her property.

Brian Marcotte, vice president of the Pinewood Manor homeowners association, said that it's not about pigs being good pets or not; it's about pigs being in a neighborhood that doesn't permit livestock animals.
