I can't believe that no one else has said it -

So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish.

Dr. John C. Lilly's book "Man and Dolphin" would be excellent reading for anyone. He presents the hypothesis that man's first interspecies communication may well occur right here on Earth with Tursiops truncatus (the Atlantic bottle nosed dolphin). He worked with these animals for years. :-)

marks9890 UR a disgusting reminder of some sub species of humans with limited, narrow perceptions and an obvious smaller brain capacity than any dolphin or mythical merpeople!!!

If I might add a different perspective... rather thancoming from the intellect, books ,science and so on, though I find that facinating. Instead of making everything so complicated and full of your own agendas, from my own personal experiences I offer a simple fact....they like humans. It is really very simple, given the chnce they love to interact with humans, play, nuzzle and prorect us when necessary. I have benefited from their protectiveness when a teenager and laughed with them as they gently played with the girl on the sand bar. They simply enjoy us and as for me I delight in them as well. No mystery and nothing man has not long known...it takes science a long time to catch on doesn't it? Don't however attempt to ride them take hold of a fin if one comes to you but don;t force yourself on anyone or any living creature...no one likes it......no species!

This looks like the dolphins are trying to communicate with us. Could it be they are trying to say we're harming their environment, or that the military sonar is damaging their own sonar echo-location of food? Food is a universal, cross speacies peace offering. They ARE trying to tell us something.

IM a dolphin whisperer, I can help. They are trying to tell us to "PLEASE stop the naked hairy California liberals from trying to ride us on the beach to commune with the nature goddess thru them"...all they want is to swim in oceans free of hairy dolphin humpers, is THAT too much to ask???

In the 60s, I became fascinated by John C Lilly and his dolphin research and consequently read a lot on dolphins and their known enemy the shark. Through history, there are accounts of wild dolphins which have rescued humans at sea, protected humans, played with the young in bays, and cooperatively sent scores of fish into fisherman nets. So this is not a surprise. An irony is the scientific "knowledge" written on dolphin behavior when most of it is from dolphins in captivity. Dolphins have been helpful to man but there have also been times, especially when military tries to use them, that humans learn dolphins like sharks bite. What does surprise my of late is the scientific articles noting things long known as though they were new.
