Santa Claws and The Night Before Christmas

More on PawNation: Celebs, Christmas, Cobras, Funny, Reptiles, Zoo
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the zoo
Not a creature was stirring, except an eggnog drunk Emu
The stockings were hung by the herpetarium with care,In hope that St. Nicholas would bring tasty hare;

The reptiles were nestled all snug on their rocks,
With visions of small rodents being dropped in their box;
The zookeeper in her office, and I in my exhibit,
Had just settled down for something that rhymes with exhibit.

When out in the zoo there arose such a clatter.
I sprang from my cage next to the black adder,
Way past the monkey house I slithered and slank,
Past the lions and bears and some fish in a tank.

The ambient lighting of the apple so big
Made it easy to see the wild boar and common pig.
When, what to my wondering snake eyes appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver, all furry with paws,
I knew in a moment it must be Santa Claws
More rapid than regular deer his reindeer they came,
And he growled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Yogi, Now, Boo Boo! Now, Smokey and Winnie,
On Paddington, Corduroy ! Ted, and on Fozzie.
To the top of aquarium! To the top of the zoo!
Let's land over there where that cobra got loose.

And then, faster than tweeting, I heard on the roof
The stomping and clomping of each deer hoof.
As I drew in my tongue and slithered around,
Through some unsecure roof tiles St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his paw,
And his clothes were just a jacket and hat that I saw.
With a bundle of presents he brought to give folk,
And he looked like a polar bear drinking a coke.

His eyes – how they twinkled! His dimples how hairy!
His paws were enormous, his claws quite scary,
The fangs in his mouth could swallow you whole.
The fur on his body was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his fangs
Smoking is bad for you, remember that, gang.
He had a broad snout and large furry belly,
That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of Jell-O 'cause that makes more sense.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old bear,
And I hissed when I saw him, and watched from my lair.
A wink of his eye and sense of his mood,
Soon gave me to know I would not be his food.

He spoke not a word, but straightening his hat,
Filled all the stockings with hamsters, mice, and a rat,
And laying a claw aside of his snout
And giving a nod, he saw himself out.

He pounced in his sleigh, to his team gave a "Hey."
And away they all flew like a flock of birds of prey.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all animals, and all animals a good-night"
