There are many perks to being a celebrity, from owning private jets to creating perfume lines. What we applaud the most is celebrities' ability to help animals via their star power. Over the years, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has rallied up a troop of superstars to spread the word about animal rights. Although their ads are sometimes controversial, giving a shock to the public has often helped the animal kingdom, thanks to these famous names (and bodies). Here are 12 celebrities who have posed for PETA this year.

    PAUL MCCARTNEY

    Cause: Vegetarianism

Why He Got Involved: Years ago, on a fishing trip, Beatles superstar Paul McCartney realized he wanted to become a vegetarian. "Something inside me clicked. I realized as I watched him fight for breath, that his life was as important to him as mine is to me." In addition to being a passionate vegetarian, McCartney is also a huge animal rights activist. OLIVIA MUNN

    Cause: Anti-fur

How She Got Involved: This isn't Oliva Munn's first time posing nude in the name of animals. In 2010, the "Newsroom" and "Magic Mike" starlet took a stand against circus elephants. This time, Munn is taking up with the popular "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign.

"When you think about even that little tiny trim of fur on your gloves or on your collar, that is still coming from an animal that had to endure so much pain just for you. There's nothing good about pretending like you don't know," said Munn. She was also PETA's host for a video expose on fur farms in China.

    MIKE "THE SITUATION" SORRENTINO

    Cause: Spay/Neuter advocacy

How He Got Involved: Who would have guessed that "Jersey Shore" bad boy Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino cared about safe sex? Well, when it comes to companion pets, he does! In October, the MTV star signed on to be a PETA spokesperson, hoping to raise awareness about neutering and spaying cats. "When I hear something on the news about animals being abused, it's a very, very sad thing because animals don't have a voice," he said in a PSA. It may be a little risqué, but sometimes that's what it takes to instill the message.

    WENDY WILLIAMS

    Cause: Anti-fur

How She Got Involved: This holiday season, talk show host Wendy Williams posed naked for PETA in hopes of encouraging shoppers to skip on mink and fox furs for presents. "We should all try to be comfortable in our own skin and let animals keep theirs," she said. Williams once was a fan of furs, until she found out the cruel ways in which animals are killed for their hides.

    DR. DREW

    Cause: Spay/Neuter Advocacy

How He Got Involved: It wasn't hard for Dr. Drew to sign on as one of PETA's spokespeople in August. A proud owner of two dogs, Daisy and Lulu, Dr. Drew Pinsky understands the importance of spaying and neutering companion pets. "[There are] eight million homeless pets in this country, four million — only half of them ever get adopted. If we are responsible enough to adopt a pet, we've got to be responsible enough to get them spayed or neutered."

    JOAN JETT

    Cause: Vegetarianism

How She Got Involved: In November, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Joan Jett scored yet another award honoring her eternal awesomeness: PETA's Nanci Alexander Activist Award. Throughout her career, Jett has worked hard to help end animal cruelty. She has protested against McDonald's chicken-slaughtering and has also helped PETA launch vegetarian/vegan starter kits. Not just that, the rockstar also owns Sublime, one of the best vegan restaurants in South Florida. "If there's anything I love more than rock 'n' roll, it's animals," said Jett.

    CASEY AFFLECK

    Cause: Cow Dehorning

How He  Got Involved:  The 37-year-old actor, dedicated vegan and animal activist signed on with PETA to raise awareness about the painful dehorning of dairy cows. Affleck narrates a PSA where he details the painful process cows and calves undergo on dairy farms. In 2008, Affleck filmed a vegetarian testimonial for PETA. Watch it here.

    LISA EDELSTEIN

    Cause: Vegetarianism

How She Got Involved: Actress Lisa Edelstein was always a picky eater, ever since she was a litter girl. "I was raised in a kosher home, and if you're raised with a food restriction, it's not that difficult to have another kind of food restriction," said told Prevention magazine. After deciding to  adopt a vegetarian lifestyle at 15, Edelstein learned how she wasn't just positively affecting her body, but was also making a big difference in the environment. "The meat industry is really toxic to the environment. We need to pull back as a culture as much as we can."

    PETER DINKLAGE

    Cause: Vegetarianism

How He Got Involved: Although the "Game of Thrones" actor plays a sometimes-barbaric lord, in real life, Peter Dinklage is a huge animal lover and a devoted vegetarian. Watch his heartwarming PSA here.

    CHRISTIAN SERRATOS

    Cause: Vegetarianism

How She Got Involved:  In November, "Twilight" star Christian Serratos got dark and deadly for PETA. The Dia de Los Muertos-themed pro-vegetarian ad was intended to honor animals who had been sacrificed for food. Serratos has been a vegetarian for much of her life and says that in addition to being an animal lover, it's made her feel brighter and lighter.

    WAKA FLOCKA FLAME

    Cause: Animal Abuse

How He Got Involved: Waka Flocka may seem hard with his tatted up skin and songs titled "Bang," but when it comes down to it, the 25-year-old Southern rapper is a big softie, especially when it comes to animals. In 2011, the hip-hop star posed naked in an anti-fur campaign. This year, he decided to speak out against animal abuse, particularly dogfighting and chaining. "An animal ain't gon' fight you. He show you nothing but love," he said.

     EVELYN LOZADA

    Cause: Anti-fur

How She Got Involved: No matter how glamorous "Basketball Wives" star Evelyn Lozada is, she would never dream of pairing her diamonds with fur. Lozada had heard what happened to animals when they were killed for their fur, but it wasn't until she saw footage of animals on fur farms that it clicked. She hopes to inspire others through her campaign.
